It's Now Cheaper To Buy A PS5 With A Copy Of Astro Bot Than Without One

Summary

  • Astro Bot’s recently revealed PS5 bundles are available now.
  • Both the regular and digital editions of the bundles are $50 cheaper than buying a PS5 without a copy of Astro Bot.
  • That means you’re getting a PS5 and a copy of a $60 game for less than buying the console separately.

PlayStation confirmed its Astro Bot PS5 bundles are real and despite the announcement claiming they’d be hitting stores next week, the listings are now live at PlayStation Direct. Those listings have confirmed that it will cost anyone in the market for a PS5 less to buy a console bundled with Astro Bot than it is to buy the console with nothing at all.

Astro Bot has been bundled with the regular model of the slimmer PS5 as well as the digital edition, each of them also coming with a DualSense controller – a regular one, not the limited edition Astro Bot controller. The regular Astro Bot bundle has been priced at $449.99, while the Astro Bot PS5 bundle without a disc drive can be picked up for $399.99.

That’s some big praise coming from the former president of Nintendo of America.

At this stage in the PS5’s life cycle, anyone interested in picking up the bundle will probably think those prices are pretty fair. However, they’ll only realize just how good a deal they’re getting if they check how much it costs to buy a PS5 without a copy of Astro Bot bundled with it before they check out.

Astro Bot PS5 Bundles Are Now Available At PlayStation Direct

And They’re Cheaper Than Buying A PS5 All By Itself

The slimmer model of the PS5 all by itself is currently carrying a $499.99 pricetag on PlayStation Direct, while the digital edition is $449.99. That means if you were to buy either of them instead of the same consoles bundled with a copy of Astro Bot, you’ll pay $50 more. Just to clarify, that means you’re getting a $500 console plus a $60 game and for some reason, it costs $50 less.

PlayStation has bundled its slim PS5 models with Astro Bot. The bundles come with either a standard or digital edition of the slim PS5, a copy of Astro Bot, and a standard DualSense controller.

Even if you don’t want Astro Bot, although I can’t even begin to figure out why you wouldn’t, you may as well pick up the bundle and save yourself $50 in the process. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to trade in your copy of Astro Bot and technically get the PS5 for even less since it’s a voucher you redeem, not a physical copy. But hey, you could give the voucher to a PS5-owning friend and let them experience one of the greatest platformers ever made.

PlayStation has been riding the Astro Bot wave since it launched last September, picking up 2024’s Game of the Year and releasing DLC levels at a steady pace. The final level in the most recent batch of speedrun stages, Armored Hardcore, will be live by the time you read this. If you’re picking up a bundle and haven’t even started your Astro Bot journey yet, you have so many more levels to play through than the rest of us had at launch.
