But don’t worry! With your player two and trusty dragons by your side, you’ve got this. In this guide, we’ll break down the key tactics you need to defeat the Dragon Slayer and clear your path forward.

How To Defeat The Dragon Slayer

Mio's red dragon spits acid at the Dragon Slayer, Zoe's blue dragon is rolling toward his purple torso.

To defeat the Dragon Slayer, focus on his purple crystal torso. The moment it appears, Zoe’s dragon should roll straight into it for massive damage. The crystal will disappear for a while before reappearing, so stay alert and strike as soon as it returns.

Don’t be greedy. If the Dragon Slayer begins casting his abilities, hold off on your attack. Wait until he finishes his move, then roll in to break the crystal. This way, you’ll avoid unnecessary damage and wasting time.

Mio’s dragon can spit acid whenever possible to melt away the Dragon Slayer’s armor and HP. Both you and your co-op partner should be aware of your surroundings as falling off the arena means certain death. Beyond that, it’s all about adapting to his attacks, and finding the right moments to strike.

The Dragon Slayer’s Abilities And How To Counter

The Dragon Slayer has an arsenal of powerful abilities. Fortunately, he only has one phase. Here’s a breakdown of his key moves and the best strategies to counter them and stay safe.

How To Counter

Ice Spin Attack

The Dragon Slayer performs a triple 360-degree spin attack, sending out rings of ice with each swing of his sword.

Jump to dodge each wave. Watch out for the third spin as it comes with a faster swing speed.

Sword Slam

The Dragon Slayer’s sword glows before he slams it into the ground, dealing damage and unleashing a straight-line ice attack that extends beyond the sword’s range.

Dash to the side.

Sword Plunge Shockwave

The Dragon Slayer leaps into the air, crashes down, and plunges his sword into the ground, creating a shockwave.

Purple crystals and weapons appear across the arena. The lower his HP gets, the more obstacles will appear.

Beware of the Dragon Slayer’s landing, as it can one-shot you if you’re caught beneath him. Jump to dodge the shockwave that follows.

Zoe should use her dragon to destroy the crystals, while Mio’s dragon should spit acid to melt the weapons.

Clear the arena as fast as you can. These obstacles won’t disappear on their own.

If left unchecked, they’ll pile up when the Dragon Slayer summons more, leaving you with no room to dodge his other attacks, especially the Tracking Blue Flames.

Scorpion Summon

When you take away around 25% of the Dragon Slayer’s HP, he will summon armored scorpions to assist him in battle. These scorpions will latch onto players, dealing damage and exploding.

Zoe should focus on dodging the scorpions, while Mio should quickly spit acid to destroy them.

Intermission: Falling Ice Meteors

The intermission phase occurs twice during the fight: first when you’ve taken away one-fifth of the Dragon Slayer’s HP, and again when he’s down to his last fifth.

During this phase, the Dragon Slayer flies around the arena and rains down ice meteors. The impact points are marked with blue swirlies.

While the meteors are active, the Dragon Slayer becomes invulnerable.

In the second Intermission, along with the ice meteors, he will also spread ice rings.

Don’t stand in the blue swirlies, run away from them to avoid the meteors.

During the second intermission, keep an eye on the Dragon Slayer’s position so you can know from where the ice rings appear and jump in the right direction to dodge them.

Tracking Blue Flames

The Dragon Slayer’s hand glows before he slams it down, summoning columns of blue flames that track you and your co-op partner.

Spread out to prevent the four flames from closing in on you. You’ll die immediately after taking two flames. So, keep your distance to give both you and your player two more space to dodge.

Don’t try to slip between the flames. They are designed to close in on you, so running between two flames will only get you killed faster.

Blue Projectiles

The Dragon Slayer raises his hand, firing rows of glowing blue projectiles that rain down in both Zoe and Mio’s directions.

Don’t stack together, keep moving and dash if necessary to avoid them.

The lower his HP, the more aggressive the Dragon Slayer will become and the faster he will attack. So, stay patient and play it safe. Rushing to finish him off while he’s casting abilities is a recipe for disaster. One wrong move will send you back to the start of the fight, as there’s no checkpoint for the Dragon Slayer battle in Split Fiction.
