Rompopolo’s Moveset in Monster Hunter Wilds

Rompopolo is a monster that will inflict the poison status ailment in Monster Hunter Wilds with many of its terrifying moves. It can be pretty easy to get caught in the flow of poison streaming from its mouth, or even worse, from the pillar of oil it shoots up out of the ground. In the sections below, you’ll see all the moves this monster can throw at you before you defeat it.

Oil Pillar

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Oil-Pillar
  • In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Rompopolo will pick up its tail and slam the stinger into the ground, which will shoot a pillar of poison oil into the air. You can tell where the oil is going to shoot up as the ground will start to bubble where the pillar will appear. In order to avoid this move, you need to get out of the range of the bubbling oil. When it is enraged, Rompopolo will make three oil bubbles in a horizontal line. Either way, you should roll backwards out of the way. The Rompopolo can only do this move when its tail is inflated, so you can avoid this move entirely by breaking its tail early in the fight.

Oil Circle

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Oil-Circle
  • When the Rompopolo sits on its tail, it will create a ring of oil explosions all around it. In order to avoid this mucky move, you will need to move away from the monster. The attack is centered around its body, so you need to move away from its immediate vicinity.

Arm Slams and Swipes

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Arm-Swipe
  • On occasion, the Rompopolo will lift one of its arms and swipe a claw at you. This move doesn’t have particularly good tracking, so you can roll out of the way to the left or right. There is a two-clawed version of this attack also, where it lifts both arms, moves forward, and slams both arms down into you. You can also roll to the side for this one; you basically have to be directly underneath it to take damage.

Tail Swipe

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Tail-Swipe
  • The tail swipe will be preceded by the Rompopolo lifting its tail. It will then swing it around and swipe it at you. Since it sort of swings its tail in a circle, the only way to avoid this attack is to dodge roll backward away from the monster to make sure it can’t hit you with that massive stinger.

Poison Spit Spray

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Poison-Spit
  • The first poison spit move is when it stands up, lunges forward, and streams poison from its mouth. You need to dodge to the left or right to avoid it. You can also Focus Strike its mouth if you are quick to break this move while it is happening, but that will not be a particularly safe move for most players. The second poison attack is when the Rompopolo does one massive spurt of poison spit from its mouth; you can tell it’s coming when its tongue starts wiggling around. You need to dodge to the left or right, or if you are far back enough, you can roll out of its AOE entirely.

Poison Whips

  • Monster-Hunter-Wilds-How-To-Defeat-Rompopolo-Moveset-Poison-Whips
  • When the Rompopolo stands up and starts to gather poison around its mouth, you will need to get out of the way quickly. It will rear back a little, and pink lights will appear around its mouth like in the picture. After that, the Rompopolo will leap forward, lashing the air with poison whips. It doesn’t telegraph this attack very well, so you’ll need to pay close attention to see it coming. You can dodge to the left or right to get around this move.
