Doflamingo has always been a fan-favorite villain in One Piece. With high levels of charisma, intelligence, and strength, Doflamingo was on an entirely different level than any foe Luffy had to face leading up to the Dressrosa Arc. Paired with Doffy’s cool design and long-standing importance to the series, the Warlord quickly became a character that fans hoped would remain relevant until the end of One Piece.
However, after his defeat at the hands of Luffy in Dressrosa, Doflamingo’s role in the story of One Piece diminished significantly compared to what it was before. Now in prison, some fans believe that the once-powerful ruler of One Piece’s underworld will remain behind bars for the rest of the story. Despite this, there some believe that Doflamingo will break out of Impel Down in One Piece, returning to the story to take part in the Final Saga.

Doflamingo Currently Resides In Level 6 Of Impel Down
He Was Quickly Taken There After Luffy Defeated Him
Being one of the Warlords of the Sea, Doflamingo was able to operate behind the back of the Marines in a shady underworld operation, trading weapons, SMILE Devil Fruits, and more, allowing him to become one of the most powerful people in One Piece, status wise. However, Luffy and Law formed an alliance set to take down the Emperor of the Sea, Kaido, forming a plan that involves taking down Doflamingo first. After a massive raid on Doflmaingo’s regime, with the help of the future Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Luffy was able to defeat Doflamingo, freeing the island of Dressrosa.
Never a dull moment in this world! – Doflamingo in prison
From here, Doflamingo was taken in by the Navy, namely the legendary Marine of Garp’s generation, Tsuru, who successfully took him to level 6 of Impel Down, despite interference from the All-Star of the Beast Pirates, Jack the Drought. Since then, although he has been in prison, Doffy occasionally chimes in on the current events of the One Piece world, giving his own bizarre, yet intelligent, take on what’s currently happening. Additionally, Doflamingo also seems to enjoy taunting the Marines, like Tsuru and Magellan.
Doflamingo Could Break Out Of Impel Down Using His Devil Fruit
His Underworld Network Would Help As Well
- Doflamingo Could Easily Escape Impel Down With His Connections And Power
- Bon Clay Could Inadvertently Free Doflamingo
Although his role after arriving in prison is much less substantial than before, fans believe that Doflamingo has the opportunity to break out of prison during the Final Saga of One Piece. While many fans are convinced of the fact that he will escape, not everyone agrees on how he will make it out of Impel Down. One of the most basic answers involves the character breaking out of his Seastone handcuffs, possibly utilizing his underworld network, and then using his String Fruit to find his way out.

Others believe that another important prisoner of Impel Down, Bon Clay, may have played a role as well. Some fans believe that Bon Clay, who is currently the leader of Impel Down’s level 5.5, may cause another prison break to help distract One Piece’s World Government and help Luffy during some conflict. This would then inadvertently free Doflamingo, giving him an easy chance to escape and make his way to wherever the final war of One Piece takes place.
Some Fans Want Doflamingo To Stay In Prison
They Believe Doflamingo May Simply Sit Back And Watch The Final Saga
At the same time, some fans hope that Doflamingo stays in prison for the Final Saga of One Piece. Some fans believe that Doffy belongs in prison for the rest of the story and won’t provide a meaningful contribution to the final conflict. Additionally, others believe that, while the former Warlord Doflamingo, is strong enough to break out of Impel Down, easily using the String-String Fruit to break out at some point, he chooses to stay in prison to have a safe seat where he can simply watch the world crumble around him during the massive final war of One Piece.
Isn’t it your job to take care of the inmates, Magellan? – Doflamingo
In the end, while there are a few ways that Doflamingo can break out of Impel Down in One Piece, most likely he will break out by utilizing the powers of his String-String Fruit to manipulate the guards, and then simply use his ability to fly off the island. To get to that point, it would make sense if a character like Bon Clay were to cause a prison break that would inadvertently free Doffy. However, for now, fans will have to wait to see how the immediate conflict on Elbaf goes before any news on Doflamingo is released in One Piece.
