Tachov is a small village above Troskowitz, and at the inn you can meet a man named Hired hand Zdenyek the Mouth. He’s a storyteller that you can tell stories to or hear stories from yourself. One story of his is a fairy tale about an axe, which may turn out to be more fact than fiction.

How To Start The Axe From The Lake Quest

To obtain this quest, you will first need to look for Zdenyek. He can be found seated outside the inn of Tachov. Engage in a conversation with him and ask for a story. You can pay him, give him a drink, or persuade him to tell you a story of your choice.

Ask him to tell you a story about something informative. He will then begin a story about an axe buried by a lake. The story is said to be a fairy tale, but you can actually find the coveted silver axe if you locate the exact burial spot.

How Do You Find The Axe From The Lake

To find the axe, the best place to start is at Rockwater Pond Pier. This is northwest of Zhelejov and west of Zhelejov Wagoner’s Inn. From Zhelejov, take the path that leads northwest in between some thick woods.

Keep walking until you see the pier on your left. Examining it will have Henry make a comment on what to look for next.

Turn around and face the direction opposite the pier. Directly across the pier towards the forest is a path that leads up to a hill. Go along the path until you see an old oak tree. The tree looks very different from the others in the forest with its very large size. You can examine this next spot again for Henry to give a hint about the next location.

Keep following the path up the hill until you see a large rock on your left. This is the rock where the silver axe was broken to pieces by the living brother. Examine it again to have Henry comment on it.

Walk up a little further until you reach the top of the hill. Once there, you will need to head a bit off the trail towards the northwest to find the burial spot. The exact location is overlooking the lake in the north.

Use your spade to dig up the brother’s grave. Loot it to find several items: a broken axe, a broken round shield, a gemstone silver ring, and five marigold flowers.

The broken axe is a piece of the silver axe from the story, and you will need to repair it to progress in the quest further.

How Do You Repair The Broken Axe From The Lake

You can repair the broken axe by forging it yourself at a smithing station.

The materials you’ll need to repair the silver axe are the broken axe and one fastening material. You can purchase materials from Radovan if you don’t have them yet.

Use the forge to repair the axe, and you will end up with an Adorned Axe at the end.

The Adorned Axe can deal a considerable amount of damage and can also be used with a shield, making it a decent weapon to wield very early in the game. That said, if you have a stronger weapon you may be better off selling it as it can fetch a higher price compared to other weapons.

Once you’ve successfully repaired it, you can head back to Zdenyek to tell him about the axe.
