Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc
The first season of Demon Slayer builds up the base of the series and the themes that it will explore in upcoming arcs as well. Tanjiro learns more about breathing forms and goes through rigorous training to master his powers.
The Hashira are introduced and the main villain of the series, Muzan Kibutsuji, makes an appearance as well. Some other major characters such as Urodaki and Kanao are also introduced. Tanjiro makes a party with Inosuke and Zenitsu, and they have some fun and serious developments across the series.

Mugen Train Arc
If you have watched the Mugen Train movie, you can skip the anime except for the first episode. It covers the backstory of Kyojuro Rengoku which adds more depth to the events of the Mugen Train movie.
