Summary

  • Eustass Kid of the Worst Generation is overrated and nearly useless, with his biggest feat being beating Big Mom with Law’s help.
  • After a failed attempt at Elbaf, Eustass Kid’s dream of becoming Pirate King is shattered by Red Hair Pirates led by Shanks.
  • Despite a high bounty, Eustass Kid falls short of being Luffy’s rival due to lack of significant accomplishments in the New World.

Very few One Piece pirates managed to have the same level of impact as the Worst Generation. This particular group managed to make a name for themselves with their infamy among thousands of pirates. Given their popularity, it’s hardly surprising that the members of the Worst Generation have appeared in several story arcs.

Out of the twelve members, Eiichiro Oda has relied on certain individuals more than the rest, Eustass Kid being one of them. Eustass Kid made his debut in the Sabaody Archipelago arc along with the other Supernovas. Not long after his debut, he had the opportunity to show off his abilities, and it is fair to say that he managed to impress the readers.

They formed a strong opinion of him and expected him to achieve great things. However, after a short while, it became clear that Eustass Kid was not going to be the character that fans were hoping for. In fact, he soon became overrated.

His Biggest Feat Was Relying On Trafalgar Law

Without Law, Victory Would Not Have Been Possible

  • Law’s awakening changed the tide in their favor
  • Big Mom should have won the fight

Eustass Kid has just a handful of feats, and most of them aren’t even that impressive. The biggest accomplishment of Kid is beating Big Mom with the help of Trafalgar Law. Fans who have read the manga know that it was Trafalgar Law who stopped Big Mom from ordering her Homies and then even landed the finishing blow. Without Trafalgar Law, Eustass Kid would never have beaten Big Mom and would likely have lost his life. The same goes for Law, but he had better odds of beating her.

Aside from his contribution in the fight against Big Mom, Eustass Kid was nearly useless during the raid. He did not defeat any person of high renown, nor did he contribute to the alliance’s victory in any other way. Eustass Kid left Wano with his head held up high, but he was humbled by one of the Yonko.

After leaving Wano, Eustass Kid and the Kid Pirates set their course to Elbaf, the land of Giants. Kid was confident that he would find a lead that would help him obtain another Road Poneglyph or at least gain intel about the location of Laugh Tale, but fate had other plans for him.

As he arrived near the waters of Elbaf, the Red Hair Pirates learned of his presence. The Kid Pirates had previously clashed with the Red Hair Pirates, and it had ended badly for the former.

You wanna go after the man marked by flames?— Eustass Kid

Despite Killer’s warning, Eustass Kid went ahead with his plan to engage the Red Hair Pirates. He began charging his weapon for a lethal attack, but Shanks sniffed out the danger and immediately set out to stop him. Kid was caught off guard, and his dream of becoming the Pirate King was destroyed.

To add to the insult, Shanks took all the rubbing of the Road Poneglyphs in Kid’s possession and then ordered Dorry and Brogy to destroy the Supernova’s ship. After losing his and the Road Poneglyphs, Eustass Kid is officially out of the race for One Piece.

Eustass Kid Tried To Stand Close To Luffy

Despite hardly doing anything significant, Eustass Kid received the same bounty as Luffy and La, both of whom have better feats under their belt. Additionally, a lot of fans believed that Eustass Kid was going to be Luffy’s rival because he shared the same dream as the latter.

Eustass Kid’s initial bounty also deceived fans. As it was higher than Luffy’s, it gave fans the belief that the red-haired Supernova could stand shoulder to shoulder with the future King of the Pirates. Unfortunately, a proper rivalry between the two never materialized because Luffy was way ahead of Kid in terms of strength.

It would be remiss to not mention that Eustass Kid spent more time in the New World, and all he had to show for it was a rubbing of a Road Poneglyph that he stole from the weakest Sweet Commander. Furthermore, Eustass Kid lost his left arm to Ben Beckman, which was a big stain on his legacy. When all is said and done, Eustass Kid is overrated in terms of strength, but he is certainly not a bad character.
