Large monsters like Rathalos and Rey Dau are the appeal of Monster Hunter. There’s nothing quite like the rush of challening the lord of the skies with an oversized tuba. But not every monster is as large as these beasts. Monster Hunter Wilds is filled with smaller monsters just going about their daily lives.

Here is every fish in Monster Hunter Wilds, where to find them, and how to catch them.
And among those small monsters are a rather large degree of unsettling large insects. The Comaqchi is one of those monsters, found in the chilly environs of the Iceshard Cliffs. And you’ll be hunting quite a few of them if you want to get your hands on enough Comaqchi Carapace.
How To Get Comaqchi Carapace
Comaqchi Carapace is dropped by Comaqchi when carved from them. Nice and simple. It can only be gotten as a target reward from from the Dream Eaters Optional Quest, though this has a lesser chance of dropping. On the other hand, there is a 100% chance of it dropping when you carve a defeated Comaqchi. So you’re better off just traveling to the Iceshard Cliffs to hunt them.
Comaqchi Carapace only drops from High Rank Comaqchi, so you won’t be able to get this item until you’ve finished the Low Rank story.
Small monsters are helpfully marked on the map as small blue symbols, showing their logo when zoomed in on. Use this to easily track groups of them around the map, getting a Comaqchi Carapce from each one you defeat. If you’re struggling with them exploding, make sure to equip the Entomologist skill first to guarantee they stay whole of body.
You can also trade Chaliceweed to Rove for Comaqchi Carapace, but that should honestly be kept for a more worthwhile trade.
Uses For Comaqchi Carapace
Once you’ve gathered up a healthy number of Comaqchi Carapaces, which really shouldn’t take very long, you’ll be able to put them to use. Despite being such a specific material, they have quite a few uses, with the largest number needed for the Comaqchi-specific gear.
Here is every piece of equipment you can make with Comaqchi Carapaces. and how much they require:
- Comaqchi Accessory α and β – Five each, 20 for all versions.
- Dahaad Shardgreaves α and β – Two each, eight for all versions.
- Nerscylla Coil α and β – Two each, eight for all versions.
- Sleep Charm III – Three.
- Sonic Horn IV – Four.
In total, this would require 42 Comaqchi Carapaces. This might sound like quite a few, but that’s more than possible to get in just a few visits to the Iceshard Cliffs since it’s a guaranteed drop. And then you’ll never have to look at those oversized bugs ever again.
