“The Overall Menu Is Just Kind Of Confusing” Says Gemma’s Voice Actor, Asking Monster Hunter Wilds Community For Tips

Monster Hunter Wilds Has Cut The Series Staple Wyverian Language

Summary

  • The English voice actor for Gemma sought beginner tips from the Monster Hunter Wilds community.
  • The confusing menus were a bit intimidating for her.
  • She also skips her own dialogue all the time.

Monster Hunter Wilds‘ positive reception is down to a number of factors. It entered Steam’s top-ten charts within an hour of launching, and garnered one million concurrent players five hours later. It went on to sell eight million copies in its first three days. While the producer thinks the success is because of the story elements, a lot of players think it’s because it’s more approachable than previous entries.

But maybe not what the series needs.

Regardless of what you think the reason is, there’s no denying that the game is overall a bit more forgiving, and far more streamlined. However, that’s only according to veteran players. If you’re new to the series, you’re undoubtedly a bit intimidated by all the menus and systems, much like Gemma’s English voice actor, Kristen McGuire.

Gemma and Alma are the Yennefer and Ciri of the Monster Hunter Wilds fanbase. While the latter is a great handler who looks after all your needs, Gemma is the blacksmith that crafts your deadly weapons out of monster parts. However, it seems that her voice actor isn’t too familiar with the series, and is especially confused by all the menus.

As spotted by GamesRadar, McGuire reached out to the MHWilds subreddit hoping to get a few beginner tips.”I just got my copy of the game yesterday and am excited to play,” said her post, after introducing herself. “However, this is my first MH game that I’ve ever played, and I feel woefully underprepared. Do you have any tips for a total noob like me? For what it’s worth, I started with the glaive weapon.”

The community was appreciative of her work, and got down to giving her a few lessons, including telling her to swap her Insect Glaive out as it’s a more advanced weapon. And, as you’d expect, fans also had questions for her. Replying to a comment that told her the game is all about grinding and that she should take her time with it, McGuire said, “I actually like grinding, so that doesn’t bother me, haha. The overall menu is just kind of confusing.”

I totally get it. The Monster Hunter series is notorious for having tons of menus and systems that are intimidating for any new player. Thankfully, I had a friend coaching me through Monster Hunter World, so it wasn’t too bad.

In other interaction in the thread, McGuire revealed that she constantly skips her own dialogue and can’t remember how many takes she had to do for “Hello!”
