Jujutsu Kaisen: How Sukuna Helped Megumi Grow Stronger

Megumi’s power grew thanks to Sukuna in JJK. Here’s how.

Needless to say, the fight between Gojo and Sukuna was the very best one in this segment of the arc and it gave fans quite a lot of new and exciting abilities to look at. For Sukuna, this fight was very difficult but it was also one that forced him to grow stronger than ever before and create newer techniques, such as the World Splitting Dismantle, a mighty technique that stands out as one of Sukuna’s very best abilities, if not the best one so far.

How Sukuna’s Cursed Technique Works

  • Sukuna Has The Power Of Shrine
  • The King Of Curses Can Cleave and Dismantle His Enemies With Ease

Sukuna has got, quite easily, one of the strongest abilities in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, and that is the power of Shrine. Sukuna’s Cursed Technique is often associated with the ability to slice and dice, and while that is correct in theory, it isn’t exactly accurate. Sukuna’s cursed technique is more like a kitchen, where he is the cook. This is why Sukuna has access to two abilities primarily, Cleave, and Dismantle. Both of these see Sukuna act like a chef with a knife, chopping away what he wants and cutting up everything that he needs. But, in essence, the cursed technique can be boiled down to chopping and dicing using Cleave and Dismantle. Both of these techniques are very different, even though they look similar.

I’ll chop up everything you hold dear and I’ll make you watch before I kill you too! — Sukuna

When using the power of Cleave, Sukuna can rain down slashes on the enemy, and the power of this technique depends on the toughness of the enemy, as well as the amount of cursed energy that is used to fire off the attack. The biggest downside of Cleave is that the user must make physical contact with the enemy to utilize it, unless it is being used inside the domain. Cleave is a powerful technique and can take someone down in one fell swoop, as seen in the battle against Ryu Ishigori, but many sorcerers have survived it as well, such as Gojo, and Yuji on multiple occasions. Cleave can also be applied to inanimate objects, reducing them to bits using the power of Spiderweb, among other techniques.

The main danger that Sukuna’s cursed technique poses comes through Diamante. Simply put, Dismantle is a powerful slash that flies at the target after a hand sign is made and it chops them down effortlessly. It can work on just about anything in the world, including inorganic matter, and its power can be greatly amplified if more cursed energy is channeled. At full power, Dismantle can kill anyone in the Jujutsu Kaisen world and it must be countered with measures such as Domain Amplification, Simple Domain, high-level healing, or simply by reinforcing the body with cursed energy. What makes Dismantle even more special is the fact that it is invisible, meaning it can come from anywhere and the user must be incredibly concentrated to avoid being hit. It is through this technique that Sukuna derives an even stronger version of the ability, the World Splitting Dismantle.

Gojo’s 0.2 second long domain expansion is definitely interesting in JJK’s Shibuya Arc.

Sukuna also has other techniques in his arsenal, such as Divine Flame, which is essentially a fire arrow that cooks anyone once certain conditions are met (and further goes to show why Sukuna’s cursed technique is a kitchen more so than just cutting powers), but that’s not the topic at hand.

Sukuna And Mahoraga: How The Shikigami Gave Sukuna The World-Splitting Dismantle

Mahoraga Gave Sukuna The Blue Print For The Slash That Cuts The World

In the Shinjuku Showdown arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna was in the body of none other than Megumi Fushiguro, and this switch was made during the Culling Game arc. Once Megumi was baptized, he couldn’t help but fall under Sukuna’s full control, meaning every technique that he had in his arsenal was simply there for Sukuna to use. Of course, his strongest ability, Mahoraga, was going to be used by Sukuna as well, especially when he fought against Gojo Satoru. In fact, it is the Ten Shadows Technique that ended up being the defining factor in the battle between Sukuna and Gojo, making the fight’s end a bitter one for Gojo fans.

Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live! — Sukuna

Essentially, it is here that Sukuna tapped into the power of Dismantle and took it to a whole other level, and this came by carefully studying Mahoraga. Throughout the battle, Sukuna was carefully watching Mahoraga, waiting for it to adapt to Gojo’s Infinity. Once the second adaptation happened, Sukuna had the blueprint he needed and realized that he could essentially increase the target of his attack. In other words, Sukuna normally set the target on Gojo during the battle, which is why he was always stopped by Infinity, which was active at all times. But, when Sukuna expanded the target to the whole world, targeting everything in it, including space, and even existence itself, Gojo became a target, as did his Infinity. Using this power, Sukuna was able to bypass the infinity and chop Gojo in half, ending the battle against the Strongest for good.

Of course, this attack didn’t come without a price. To perform the technique, Sukuna needed two hands, but since he had already lost one due to Hollow Purple, Sukuna was forced to use a Binding Vow on himself. He could use the technique with one hand, but in return, he’d Alway have to make a specific hand sign, use a specific incantation, and show the path of the technique using the palm of his hand. Every subsequent use of the World Splitting Dismantle required Sukuna to fulfill all three conditions, as that is how Binding Vows work in the first place.

Undoubtedly, this technique is one of Sukuna’s most powerful, if not the most powerful, and it finally allowed him to clinch victory over Gojo. Had it not been for Mahoraga and the Ten Shadows Technique, the outcome could’ve been very different as these two sorcerers were evenly matched right up until the very end, and that was very clear to the fans throughout the battle.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s last chapter, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on the Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump apps.
