Split Fiction launching during this month could simply be a coincidence, but even if that’s the case, it’s a meaningful coincidence. Zoe and Mio taking on an evil corporation while exploring through their own stories gives gamers plenty of thrilling content to revel in. However, the deeper stories of the duo also showcase two well-written female characters with their specific strengths and weaknesses that serve as great gaming mascots for Women’s History Month. Split Fiction is already impressing, and that’s a great start for Hazelight Studios’ third game. This is the first time a story by the studio has put two women in charge of leading the story, and that’s an exciting deviation from previous projects.
A Way Out focused on the relationship between two male leads, while It Takes Two explored a broken marriage between Cody and May. Both games were fascinating explorations of their characters, and now Split Fiction gets to showcase the dynamics of two complex female characters who have their own unique backstories and traumas to come to terms with.
