The Devil Fruit tree is still shrouded in mystery. Its location might already be known in One Piece.
While most would just dismiss it as just another small addition to the arc and a slow build-up towards the eventual kidnapping of the children, there are deeper layers at play here. Oda could easily have hinted at some other big things to come with One Piece chapter 1142, and at the same time, some Devil Fruit abilities as well. Given how Devil Fruits function, it is essentially a given that these new Devil Fruits most definitely do exist in the One Piece world somewhere.
The Four New Overpowered Devil Fruits Teased By Oda
- Sommers Used His Power To Bring Fears To Life
- Many Legendary Creatures Were Seen
One Piece chapter 1142 is one where the Holy Knights combined their powers for the first time, just as Shamrock had asked them to before he left the country. Fans were expecting them to hit the Walrus School at any moment now and that’s precisely what happened. Their first began with the appearance of a giant snake in the country, which was clearly referred to as the Jormungandr by the children. This snake was so massive and powerful that it required the combined effort of Saul and Kiba to defeat, which just goes to show its strength. But, this was only the beginning.
These are the fears of the children having come to life! — Ange
As the story continued, fans saw many other powerful creatures show up in Elbaf, and all this was made possible due to the powers of a particular Holy Knight, Sommers. The three Holy Knights combined their powers to get this accomplished. Saint Killingham put the children to sleep using some rather bizarre Devil Fruit ability, he could even have them sleepwalk with ease. Gunko was able to use her arrows to keep people away from the children, give directions to them and show them where to sleepwalk to. Finally, Sommers used his abilities to bring the worst nightmares of the children to life. All their worst fears came true, all thanks to Sommers’s powers.
The children were seen having discussed their worst fears earlier that day, and clearly, most of them feared different things. While some feared legendary beasts, others feared Loki himself. The legendary beasts themselves could be a foreshadowing from Oda towards certain deadly powers that exist in the One Piece world.
In fact, given how Devil Fruits work, this is, in other words, a confirmation that these creatures exist in the world of One Piece. To make sense of it, fans simply have to look at Vegapunk’s explanation of how Devil Fruits exist.
Vegapunk Explains Devil Fruits
According to Vegapunk, Devil Fruits are born because of hope. All abilities that exist in the One Piece world are a result of a desire for it to be real. For instance, humans have always wished to be something, or have some powers and in this way, they’ve wished for a certain type of evolution that goes against nature. It is this wish that leads to the creation of a Devil Fruit ability, granting a unique type of human evolution to those who consume it. In other words, all Devil Fruit users exist in different dimensions with powers that were dreamed up by someone before them.
Now, fans know these species’ legendary creatures have their lore existing in the world of One Piece, and that alone is enough for their Devil Fruit powers to actually exist, regardless of whether these creatures themselves actually exist or not.
There are the special legendary Devil Fruits that Oda hinted at in One Piece chapter 1142:
Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Jormungandr
The Jormungandr showed up right at the beginning of the chapter and this one is quite simple. This is the world serpent, strong enough to spit fire in some cases, and most certainly one of the most legendary beasts to exist. It is said to be absolutely massive in size and a killer of Gods. The Jormungandr ability would be deadly in One Piece. Some fans have speculated that Loki has this power.
Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr
The Western-type dragon has also existed in the One Piece world for a long time. Through the nightmares of the children, the Nidhoggr was brought to life as well, and it is clearly a deadly creature. The Nidhoggr gnaws at the roots of the World Tree, which could even be a hint of Loki having this power, given that he was chained at the foot of the Adam Tree. This dragon holds tremendous durability and has fire powers. In some versions, Nidhoggr is even said to have lightning powers.
I am the Sun God who will destroy the world! — Loki
Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Fenrir
Fenrir is a legendary wolf-like entity that is said to hold tremendous power. Known to be a child of Loki in mythology, Fenrir is absolutely deadly, strong enough to even kill Odin, and another creature who is known to be chained up. This creature could also be what Loki’s powers entail.
Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Draugr
The Draugr is an undead zombie-like creature that exists in Norse mythology. Clearly, the mythology of the Draugr also exists in the One Piece world, and this power would most likely exist as a type of the Hito Hito no Mi. This undead zombie might not have the most elaborate powers, but it would definitely give an immorality-like power to the eater.
Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Hraesvelgr
A massive bird was also clearly seen in the sky above Elbaf and this bird is clearly a result of the fears of the children too. This bird is most likely the Hraesvelgr, and its wings have the power to produce strong gusts of wind and even lightning in some cases. This beast is absolutely deadly, and if someone dreamed up this power long ago, then it would truly be a deadly Devil Fruit.
Other Devil Fruits Teased In The Chapter
The Nika and Storm Fruits Are Also Teased
Apart from the five overpowered new fruits that resemble creatures, there are also other abilities that Oda teased, such as the power of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, but with Nika as a destroyer instead of a Warrior of Liberation, and even a storm cloud, which could be a representation of the Storm Storm Fruit.
