Out of all the games to take inspiration from Stardew Valley, Fields of Mistria is easily one of the best. With a 97% Steam rating from over 16,000 players, the magic-infused and late-‘90s-inspired farming sim is ultra slick and wholesome. If you’re a fan of genre classics like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, this is one you don’t want to miss. As developer NPC Studio continues the early access journey, Fields of Mistria’s second major update is here, and it massively overhauls the game.
With a pixelated hoe in hand, it’s up to you to grow your own homestead in Fields of Mistria. That means tending to crops, fishing, mining, and crafting your way to the top. There are plenty of adorable animals to rear, treasures to find, magic to contend with, and seasons to watch out for. Just like the best games like Stardew Valley, there are even an array of marriage candidates to try and woo.
As for the game’s second major update, it’s a big one. You’ve got the new Lava Caves biome and Deep Woods area to explore, alongside a farm expansion available to purchase at the Carpenter’s Shop. There’s the addition of pets, and you can use them as a furry friend to help you collect resources like foragables, wood, or stone. You even have the Animal Festival, where you can enter one large and one small creature for a chance to win relevant cosmetics.
You can also unlock the new Water Sprite and Animal Sprite statues; the former makes watering crops easier, while the latter automatically plays music and eliminates the need to pet your little friends. You also have access to a new Stone Refinery Town Repair questline, and tier-four skill perks to help you progress even further.
Perhaps the biggest addition to Fields of Mistria with update 2 is the character of Caldarus. Throughout the game you entered a pact with the dragon after repairing a broken statue of him, but now he has taken on a human form.
