The latest Fortnite update added quite a bit more content to expand the heist themes, with the Outlaw Keycard being one of the widest. Rather than being able to directly access things like rifting out of the Night Market, you’ll now need the Outlaw Keycard to do that. But also to get some of the best features in the game.
Similar to some past seasons, some of the better content is now tied to progressing through some quests. It’s a fun way of tying Fortnite lore into gameplay. Although, it does mean trips to the Night Market are going to vary in their outcome depending on how far you’ve gone. The new mechanic isn’t too hard to jump into though. This is how it works and what’s tied behind the new Keycard system:
What is the Outlaw Keycard?
The new Fortnite update has expanded the lore details. As part of the fight back against Fletcher Kane this season, you’ll need to join the outlaw Faction and get the Outlaw Keycard in Fortnite. This gives you access to loads of new options in the Black Market.
It isn’t a single keycard though. You have to upgrade it to get access to everything. Which can mean players who have gone through all of the quests will get better options for loot than others.
How to Get the Outlaw Keycard in Fortnite
The first step to unlocking everything is to get the Keycard itself. You can see what you need to do to unlock the card in the quests section of the game. You’ll need to complete the Rob Vaults and Cases quest. A community quest to unlock the feature.

How to Upgrade the Keycard
If you want to access the best features in the night Market, you need to upgrade the keycard. To do this, you have to do the Outlaw Keycard quests. These will all be available in the quest screen in-game. They aren’t difficult challenges, but it’s more about amassing engagement with the new features. A bit of an inconvenience, but it won’t get in the way of playing a game if you take them one at a time.
What Does the Outlaw Keycard Unlock in Fortnite?

Since the keycard is upgradable, you can unlock the following content by going into the black Market once you have the card:
- Common – Get Access to the backrooms
- Uncommon – Buy exotic items and hire Fortnite NPCs
- Rare – Outlaw Chest in the Backrooms
- Epic – Entire loadouts for sale in Backrooms
- Legendary – Outlaw Chests now give legendary items and dill bits.
As you can see, it’s definitely worth upgrading your keycard. Once it’s up to the higher levels, you can essentially drop at a Night Market, spend a bit of gold, and get a whole loadout, Mythic weapon, and extra teammate. It might make for some unbalanced routes to winning Fortnite games for the rest of the season.
