Dragon Ball Daima Proves Vegeta and Bulma Are The Best Couple In The Series

Summary

  • Dragon Ball Daima sparked continuity discussions among fans, ensuring its lasting popularity.
  • Vegeta and Bulma’s relationship in Daima is a highlight, showing their dynamic as the best couple in the series.
  • Some fans criticized Vegeta’s portrayal as a “wife guy,” but his family-man personality has been consistent since the Buu Saga. (121 characters)

Dragon Ball Daima recently ended, and the series was loved by some fans, but hated by others. Dragon Ball Daima will stick around for some time, especially due to the continuity discussions it has sparked among the fandom.

Much was said about the battles and the transformations in Dragon Ball Daima (SSJ4 Goku and SSJ3 Vegeta, especially). However, Daima also gives fans, probably more than any other series, a good glimpse of the relationship dynamics between Bulma and Vegeta, proving they are the best couple in the franchise.

Dragon Ball: The Biggest Letdown In Daima’s Finale

Although Daima really picked up the pace by the latter half of the series, the finale was a letdown for many, so let’s see why this is!

Bulma’s Relationships Before Vegeta

Longlasting Relation with Yamcha, But…

During a good portion of the story of Dragon Ball, Bulma was in a relationship with Yamcha. While Yamcha was introduced as a minor antagonist, he quickly joined Goku’s team in their search for the Dragon Balls. Yamcha and Bulma were attracted to each other since they first met, but it took a while for them to actually start dating, mainly due to Yamcha’s fear of talking to beautiful women. They kept dating for years — it’s not clear in the series how many years, though. However, they eventually broke up. Or so to speak, Bulma broke up with him.

In an ironic twist of fate, Bulma claimed that she put an end to their relationship because Yamcha — the women-fearing Yamcha — cheated on her all the time. Actually, it seems that Toriyama wanted Yamcha to become some sort of womanizer, but later changed his mind and stated that he is still afraid to talk to women. This retcon makes it a bit odd that Bulma was cheated on so many times, but maybe it could be more about her thinking he was cheating on her, or Yamcha accidentally getting into trouble with other women in some other way. Anyway, she eventually found happiness in her relationship and marriage with Vegeta, with whom she has two children, Trunks and Bulla — although Bulla is not yet born in Daima.

Best Bulma x Vegeta Moments in Daima

Vegeta and Bulma may seem like an odd couple at first. In the Majin Buu Saga, Vegeta is upset about becoming a “family man” with a non-pure Saiyan son, but later regrets his actions. It seems that time has made Vegeta realize that he loves his family, despite not being the type to express it out loudly.

In Dragon Ball Daima, there are some great interactions between Bulma and Vegeta that add to the humor of the story, but also give a good idea of what their married life is like. There are two particular scenes that should be mentioned.

“Shut Up, We’re Already Married”

The first one is when they are traveling and Hybis tells Bulma that her skin is smooth, and that he could make her his girlfriend. Vegeta angrily interjects and says that they are already married, to which Hybis replies that he wouldn’t mind, but Vegeta says that he would mind.

While this is just a funny moment, it is not always that we see Vegeta showing jealousy around Bulma. He usually refers to her when she is not around, and not next to her.

The “Bath Thing” Together

The other great scene happens at the end of the story. When everyone is back to their adult forms, Vegeta fights Gomah in his Super Saiyan 3 form. While it is clear that he won’t last that long, Goku and Piccolo come up with a plan to defeat Gomah based on the information Dr. Arinsu told them. However, Goku knows that Vegeta won’t leave the battle anytime soon, even though he is running out of steam.

That’s when Bulma intervenes, telling Vegeta to let the others fight, to which he replies that he will fight until he defeats Gomah even if he dies. Then Bulma says that if he doesn’t leave, she will never take a bath with him again. You know what she means by that. Vegeta immediately lets Goku fight.

While this is a brief moment, it says a lot about the dynamics of their relationship, how intimate they really are, and how much Vegeta cares about their relationship.

Dragon Ball Daima ended, but not without giving fans a little treat that hinted at a sequel.

Some Fans Don’t Like It That Much

The bath scene took over the Internet when the episode came out, and quickly became a meme. A fanart parodying Vegeta’s iconic rain scene was shared all over social media:

However, as usual, not everyone enjoyed the scene (neither the series). Many fans claimed that Vegeta “lost his personality and masculinity”, and became some sort of “wife guy”. As much as people can like or dislike whatever they want, this is actually a change of personality that has been well-developed and established since the Buu Saga.

Vegeta acts tough, but he is a family man, and he likes that. He also likes taking baths with his wife. Vegeta and Bulma’s relationship is one of the best things in Daima, and showed that they are the best couple in the series.

Dragon Ball Daima is available to stream on Crunchyroll, Hulu and Netflix. It may also be on other services in select countries.
