Paradox Interactive recently announced the “Khans of the Steppe” DLC for Crusader Kings 3. This upcoming DLC will be greatly inspired by Genghis Khan and the Mongols and will introduce some interesting content for Crusader Kings 3 players who are eager to see fresh additions to the title.

Crusader Kings 3 was originally released for PC in 2020, gaining next-gen console ports in 2022. Like the previous games in the popular franchise, Crusader Kings 3 received glowing reviews, and achieved an average critic score of 90 on OpenCritic. The grand strategy game also managed to sell over 3 million copies, and multiple expansions have been released for it over the years.

Now, Crusader Kings 3 developer Paradox Interactive has announced a new core expansion for the grand strategy game called “Khans of the Steppe,” which will be released on April 28, 2025. The new Crusader Kings 3 DLC expansion will be a part of the game’s Chapter 4, and will allow gamers to play as the Great Khan, conquering the whole world with vast, mobile armies. In this role, gamers will be able to manage Nomadic governments, and explore the tradition and culture of the Mongols.

When Will Crusader Kings 3: Khans of the Steppe Be Released?

The expansion can be purchased alone for $20, or gamers can pay for the whole Chapter 4 package for $44. Chapter 4 also includes an event pack titled Coronations, which will function as a new activity. Also, it will add a major expansion called “All Under Heaven,” which will expand the map to include China, Japan, and Southeast Asia as new regions, adding more types of government, special events, and more. The 1.15 “Crown” Update will also be part of the expansion, overhauling how Court Position works in the game, improving AI, army automation, and more, and will be entirely free for all players.

This will be the latest expansion to come to Crusader Kings 3, which received its first major add-on with a Viking-inspired DLC called Northern Lords Flavor Pack in 2021. Since then, the grand strategy game had multiple expansions, such as “Royal Court” in 2022, “Tours and Tournaments” in 2023, and “Legends of the Dead” and “Roads to Power” in 2024.
