Summary
- Video games feature sneaky and obvious Star Wars references unrelated to the series.
- Popular games like Skyrim and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 include clever nods to the iconic franchise.
- Dragon Age, Fallout: New Vegas, and Ratchet & Clank also pay homage to Star Wars with Easter eggs.
Star Wars has influenced so much of pop culture, just like it was inspired by the campy space adventures that came before. So it makes sense that it would enjoy plenty of references and Easter eggs in the materials that may not have existed without it, for better or worse.

10 Best Star Wars Games Set During The Original Trilogy
Here are the best video games that are set during the original Star Wars trilogy.
Naturally, this extends to video games. While there are tons of great Star Wars games out there and also Yoda Stories, you can find some sneaky and decidedly more obvious references to the series in many completely unrelated titles.

Unlucky Troll Victim
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
Explore around the Winterhold region of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and you’re bound to eventually find Bleakcoast Cave, a location probably named by whoever christened “Toad Suck, Arkansas.” But inside, you’ll find more than just frostbite and frost trolls.
At one point, you’ll see a skeleton’s ribcage suspended from the icy ceiling with bones scattered on the ground. This is a reference to Luke Skywalker’s unfortunate encounter with a Wampa in The Empire Strikes Back. But in this case, apparently the poor sap had no Force powers to grab that strategically placed sword on the ground.

Use The Force, Murray
Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves
Some people criticize Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves for including too many new characters. But without newbies like the delightful Guru, you never would have gotten this solitary image of a Star Wars reference. See? Completely worth it.

Sly Cooper has been a beloved PlayStation IP for almost 20 years. While fans hope for a new game, the old ones still hold up today.
In the intro to the game’s second episode, Rumble Down Under, Murray tells the story of his wise master who taught him the mystical Australian Aboriginal magic known as the Dreamtime. One slide in this animated segment features a clear reference to Yoda riding Luke’s back during his Jedi training in The Empire Strikes Back.

Jabba The Boo
Luigi’s Mansion
Luigi’s Mansion sees the titular tall and timid Mario brother in his first prominent and decidedly un-educational solo adventure. He just won a mansion (Luigi is so relatable), but it turns out that not only is it haunted; his brother Mario has been kidnapped and is being held there by King Boo.
King Boo has turned Mario into a painting, which gives the villain a perfect opportunity for a Star Wars reference. When Luigi first encounters King Boo, he gives a line referring to Mario as his “favorite decoration,” almost verbatim referencing a quote from Jabba the Hutt talking about the similarly decor-ified Han Solo in Return of the Jedi.

A Royal Rescue
Dragon Age: Origins
In Dragon Age: Origins, you eventually find yourself having to rescue the Queen of Ferelden from her own father who is attempting a coup on the land. It’s a whole thing. But when you find Queen Anora, there’s a little blink-and-you-miss-it moment for all the Star Wars fans out there.

Not every Dragon Age choice is the best. Here are some decisions that have far reaching consequences.
After finally freeing Anora from the spell confining her, she emerges disguised in a guard uniform. At this point, you can choose to respond with “Aren’t you a little short for a guard?” Anyone who’s seen A New Hope will recognize this line as the same said by Princess Leia Organa when Luke comes to rescue her disguised as a stormtrooper.

Owen And Beru
Fallout: New Vegas
Nipton is already about as pleasant as any other location in the wasteland of Fallout: New Vegas. The site of a brutal and sadistic slaughter via lottery by Caesar’s Legion, you arrive to find little more than corpses and the remaining Legionnaires, who admittedly make fine target practice.
If you explore the town a bit, and assuming you have the Wild Wasteland perk, you’ll find a pair of charred skeletal corpses by one of the houses. Examining them, you’ll find their names to be Beru and Owen, the names of Luke Skywalker’s ill-fated aunt and uncle who met a similarly grisly fate in A New Hope.

The Death Egg
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
If there are two things Dr. Eggman is good at, they’re big robots and the complete opposite of subtlety. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, you fight on board his creatively named Death Egg, but it isn’t until the next game that you get a full view of the thing.

8 Sonic The Hedgehog Things That Were Inspired By Dragon Ball
Sonic and Dragon Ball have quite a lot in common.
In Angel Island Zone of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (including Sonic 3 & Knuckles), you get a front row seat of the massive round ship emerging from the clouds. So while the name was already an obvious reference to the Death Star space station from Star Wars, now you can see it in its full rotund glory as well.

Your Father’s… Accountant
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time
You’ll find many fans propping up Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time as the peak of the Ratchet & Clank series, and it’s not difficult to see why. Between the creative weapons, the comedy, and the planet-hopping, it just feels like a complete package.
That package includes a post-game Star Wars reference. After rolling credits, you’ll get a final challenge from Lord Vorselon, whom you’ve already tangled with several times. His goading message includes the line “I am your father’s… accountant!” Even non-Star Wars fans will recognize this as a cheeky reference to Darth Vader’s famous “I am your father” reveal from The Empire Strikes Back.

Biggs And Wedge
Final Fantasy And Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy has had a bit of a love affair with Star Wars for nearly its entire existence. There’s inspiration in games like Final Fantasy 12, sure. But the real evidence is the near-constant presence of characters named Biggs and Wedge.
Biggs Darklighter and Wedge Antilles are pretty well-known to Star Wars fans as Rebel pilots, or at least Wedge is. Biggs unfortunately died during the attack on the Death Star in A New Hope. But they both live on with characters major and minor bearing their names in various Final Fantasy games and even Chrono Trigger.
