The Fool’s Apprentice is an upcoming wizard academy management sim from developer The Planar Danse, and the studio has just announced the game’s April 14 release date via a new trailer.

The Fool’s Apprentice sees players step into the magical shoes of the aforementioned fool, training students in the magical arts–or just using them as test subjects.

The Planar Danse describes The Fool’s Apprentice as “a wizard academy management sim where you–an obviously benevolent professor–must manage and cast spells on your many apprentices so that they might study the right spells… and perhaps even survive the researching process.”

The game’s developer adds that some students may not make it, “But oh well, can’t save them all!”

The game’s launch-date trailer depicts a number of ways students may kick the proverbial bucket whilst serving as apprentices, from poorly mixed potions to electrifying spells gone wrong.

When they’re not accidentally (or “accidentally”) offing their apprentices, players can engage in a number of other activities, like visually customizing their academy to give off an inviting, you’re-totally-not-going-to-die-here sort of vibe, or dealing with the residents of the city of Golyron. Golyron’s fate rests with the player, who can choose whether to bequeath magical powers to the peasantry, or keep all arcane knowledge locked behind their academy’s gates. But beware: If the citizens of Golyron become too dissatisfied with their lot in life, riots may erupt–or the player may even lose their tenure at the academy.

The Fool’s Apprentice launches for PC on April 14, and is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
