Summary
- u/Blacktuth_ allegedly asked Obsidian Support if Avowed would launch on PS5, and was supposedly told that there are “no plans” at the moment.
- Xbox told TheGamer, however, that there are “no other platform announcements” at this time, which leaves the door open for the future.
- It doesn’t seem likely that Avowed will come to PS5 any time soon, given that Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 ports were announced far in advance, but maybe one day, eh?
Xbox appears to be moving away from exclusives altogether. The Outer Worlds 2 is launching day and date on PS5 and Xbox, whereas Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is enjoying a few months of timed exclusivity before making its way to Sony’s platform sometime in “Spring 2025”. Microsoft has been candid about its case-by-case strategy — what games will launch when and where — but there’s no word yet on Avowed.
One fan, u/Blacktuth_, claims to have asked Obsidian Entertainment’s support team to try and finally get an answer. They were allegedly told, “Unfortunately, your attempts to bribe, kidnap, enchant, charm, and intimidate have all failed. I do appreciate the effort! There are no plans to launch on additional platforms at this time, but if that changes we’ll be sure to let players know.”
There are no plans to launch on additional platforms at this time.
It’s worth taking this with a grain of salt for a couple of reasons: a) this message could have easily been faked, and b) the support team wouldn’t announce a PS5 port even if it was in the works. But we reached out to Xbox to try and verify the validity of u/Blacktuth_’s post all the same.
“Avowed is available on Xbox Series X/S, the Xbox app for Windows PC, Steam, Battle.net and with Game Pass. We have no other platform announcements,” a representative told TheGamer.
So, It’s Still Up In The Air
No “announcements” is a key difference from “no plans to launch on additional platforms”. It leaves more room for that to change in the future, which, in fairness, is Xbox’s M.O. right now.
Phil Spencer said last year that there are no “red lines” around flagship titles launching on rival consoles, and there have even been murmurs of Gears of War and Halo making the leap. Avowed and Starfield are the two big question marks left lingering right now.
Xbox games such as Doom: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 were confirmed for PS5 far in advance of their upcoming release dates, so it seems unlikely that we’ll see Avowed ported to the platform anytime soon. But as with any Xbox game, that could always change.
