Resident Evil Characters Who Hate Jill Valentine

Despite starring in the first Resident Evil game and being known for her iconic role as the Nemesis’s hunted in Resident Evil 3, Jill Valentine hasn’t had a lot of other games where she’s made more of a personal connection with other antagonists in the series. And with Jill having been brainwashed by Albert Wesker himself, Jill was even among the rare characters in the series to ever become a villain before returning to the land of the good – something that took a toll in her personality, especially seen in the Death Island film.

When Albert Wesker saw the fall of Umbrella Corporation following the devastating Raccoon City Destruction Incident, he clung to what research he had of Umbrella’s T-Virus Project and took it to Excella Gione, a genetic engineer who also had a minor stake in Tricell Incorporated. With Umbrella’s fall and Wesker’s backing, however, Excella had become the regional director of Tricell Inc., Africa. The duo’s research towards the T-Abyss Project had led to the creation of a bio-weapons facility in the Kijuju Autonomous Zone and had achieved remarkable success in their endeavors until the BSAA caught wind of their activities.

A key part of Excella’s relationship with Jill is her nonchalance in the latter’s transformation into a “puppet” with the performance-enhancing P30 drug. While harboring no direct hatred for the Resident Evil protagonist, Excella wasn’t above using her for her own ends. She could care less about Jill’s status or activities, as long as she didn’t interfere with her own goals. While Excella and Jill had little interaction in Resident Evil 5, the fact that Excella paid no mind to Jill’s experience under Wesker’s control meant she practically disregarded her humanity.

Nikolai Zinoviev

Jill Was An Obstacle In His Mission

The recent virus outbreak in Raccoon City had Umbrella Corporation deploy its Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service in the hopes of eliminating zombies and saving civilians. However, Nikolai Zinoviev had other plans – specifically to gather data on the T-Virus’s potency, eliminate evidence of Umbrella’s involvement in the outbreak, and observe the performance of the Nemesis T-02 in its hunt for Jill Valentine. While Nikolai initially presents himself as an ally of Jill’s, it’s soon revealed that her survival is the least of his worries.

In fact, Nikolai was even offered a reward for assassinating Jill Valentine. However, seeing as a lethal BOW is already pursuing her, he’s more than willing to let Nemesis do all the work for him. No one knows of his true fate in the games, as he either gets the room to escape or dies during the destruction of the city.

Maria Gomez

Hates Jill By Association, Given Her Part In Her Organization

When the wedding of Glenn Arias was interrupted by a CIA bombing, its survivors, Diego and his daughter, and Maria Gomez, as well as Glenn himself swore vengeance against the very organizations that tried to stop their bioweapons dealings. With Diego now mute and reliant on the Animality Virus to survive, Maria had willingly undergone extensive physical and mental enhancements to become an efficient bioweapons arms dealer. Unfortunately, an incursion with Leon and the BSAA had led to Glenn “fusing” with Diego – an act that eventually led to their deaths.

Since then, Maria had sworn vengeance against Leon and the organizations associated with him, such as the BSAA. Now working with Dylan Blake, who inherited Glenn’s resources and “mission,” Maria willingly follows his instructions if it means exacting vengeance. In an ensuing confrontation, Jill had to square off with Maria, and the latter is seemingly annoyed considering the unenhanced Jill managed to fight on equal terms with someone like her. Although she dies at the hands of Leon, her willingness to want to kill Jill as an extension of her hatred shows just how much vitriol she has over Jill and her comrades.

While originally just a member of Umbrella Secret Service tasked to evacuate prominent figures in Raccoon City, Dylan Blake becomes the witness to his unit’s turning into zombies and eventual death. This broke him, driving him to instability and having suicidal tendencies, to the point of being a moral nihilist and being disillusioned towards people of power. In the events of Death Island, it’s revealed he took over the bioterrorism operations of Glenn Arias, having bioengineered mosquitoes to deliver a targetable version of the T-Virus that doesn’t infect others – only select individuals.

Part of his plans was to raise suspicions of this project enough to bring key anti-bioterrorism players in his lab in Alcatraz, specifically Leon Kennedy, the Redfield siblings, and Jill Valentine – all of which he believes are just pawns in a game of those in power. As part of his “reset” of the population, he wants to kill these agents alongside useless government personnel. While he doesn’t have any direct malice towards Jill, he specifically wants her to experience having to kill her comrades who have been infected by the T-Virus. This was an especially gruelling experience for Jill, as she herself had been brainwashed by Wesker before.

Jill Is A Constant Threat To His Plans

During the events of the first Resident Evil game, the STARS team who investigated the Spencer Mansion were split apart with the constant threat of the undead pursuing them. And when it’s revealed that it’s actually Albert Wesker who wanted to lead his own STARS teammates to their inevitable demise, the sunglasses-toting mastermind was certainly surprised to learn that both Jill and Chris Redfield managed to survive his trap. This proved to be rather problematic for his conquest of ultimate power, as their presence meant having skilled operatives being on top of any bioterror missions he planned to conduct.

Things come ahead when a fatal mission of the BSAA leads to his capture of Jill Valentine, who he converts into an agent who follows his every whim. In the eyes of Wesker, a skilled asset like Jill cannot be wasted – and while she may have been an enemy, keeping someone like her at arm’s length meant easily killing her if it was necessary. While Wesker has more world-spanning plans to worry about than insects (in his eyes) like Jill, she was certainly a thorn he will dedicate time and effort to eliminate if it meant not having any risk of his plans being ruined by others.

Nemesis T-Type

Eliminating Jill Is Its Mission

If there’s anyone in the Resident Evil universe whose sole mission is to make Jill’s life a living hell, it’s the Nemesis T-Type. Technically an “upgrade” of the original Tyrant from Resident Evil 2, this monstrosity in Resident Evil 3 is not only much stronger and resilient but also “programmable” – with its first directive being the elimination of all STARS Survivors. In the case of the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, this meant the constant pursuit of Jill Valentine, which reflected in a nigh-constant chase throughout Resident Evil 3 gameplay.

This horrific nature of Nemesis as Jill’s literal “nemesis” plagues not just the STARS survivors but players at large. Doors could lead to unfortunate encounters with Nemesis in the room, and even “killing” the Tyrant in a random encounter will just delay his next appearance. While certainly possessing no “natural” animosity against Jill, Nemesis being “programmed” to do so is similar to how hate can be instilled upon others through conditioning.
