Chapter 1142 of the One Piece manga had many reveals that showed how the Elbaf arc may be one of the franchise’s most dire in terms of consequences and implications for the future of the series. Not only was there a reveal of Loki’s strength with Ragnir, a hammer that may just be a Supreme Grade, but the true power of Saint Qilingham’s Devil Fruit was also on display.
However, one of the most shocking moments came from a power that may come from Saint Summer’s probable Devil Fruit, which can manifest his target’s greatest fears. While this is a huge reveal in itself, one of these manifestations seems to hint at Blackbeard’s long-awaited Devil Fruit power according to some fans, so let’s go over how Chapter 1142 of One Piece may hint at its ability.

Elbaf is an arc that has some of the most groundbreaking and world-changing reveals in the entire One Piece story. Ever since the Wano arc, fans had only ever believed the legendary Sun God Nika to be a liberator deity who went around the world spreading joy and freeing all the oppressed people from any tyrannical rule that they were under. However, Elbaf added a lot more context to his story.
On this island, it was shown that the Giants also had a different version of this legend than the rest of the world since some believe that he was a destroyer rather than a savior. The Harley Texts state that the world has been destroyed twice before and Nika’s name was mentioned both times, so there is currently a divide among the Giants about who this character truly was in the wider context of history. If there is a ‘destroyer’ version of this character, this would work perfectly with Blackbeard’s role in the story.
According to the Harley Texts, the world has been destroyed twice before and the name of Sun God Nika is invoked after each instance.
For starters, it’s always been clear that Blackbeard serves as the antithesis to Luffy. He is the opposite of the protagonist in just about every conceivable way since he and his ambitions are in direct conflict with what Luffy wants. Where Luffy desires freedom above all else, Blackbeard wishes to become the King of the World, and, in doing so, wants to subjugate everyone under his rule. Because of the thematic connections that these two share, fans have believed that Blackbeard’s power will be the exact opposite of Luffy’s as well.
One such way could be that Blackbeard’s true Devil Fruit may somehow be an ‘evil’ version of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. The reason why this debate was sparked in the first place comes from Chapter 1142, when Saint Summer’s likely used his Devil Fruit power to manifest the worst fears of the children of Elbaf, of which the one that stood out the most was the evil Nika.
Due to this version of Nika’s likeness to Blackbeard, some fans think that this was clever and subtle foreshadowing of what Blackbeard’s true power might be. It would make sense too, since him being the exact opposite of Luffy would also be reflected in his Devil Fruit power, which would have him collect other Devil Fruits for himself rather than be a liberator seeking to spread freedom. Also, if there are two Nika fruits, one representing light and goodness and the other representing evil and darkness, it could also explain the destruction of the previous worlds.
The Nika who was considered a liberator could have owned the fruit that Joyboy and Luffy use, while the one considered a destroyer may have had the Devil Fruit Blackbeard inherited. Though this may seem like wishful thinking, the speculation does seem to line up in certain ways. Fans think that the connections shared by Luffy and Blackbeard have to mean something big, and if Oda has truly designed the evil version of Nika from Chapter 1142 to look like Blackbeard, it would be the best payoff for the relationship between the two.

How Could Blackbeard and Luffy’s Nika Powers Differ?
With Blackbeard having an evil version of the Nika fruit, many thematic connections with Luffy would play out, specifically the one related to their greatest ambitions. Luffy’s Gear 5 is described as being incredibly silly, spreading joy and laughter with its fantastical abilities that essentially make his surrounding world a playground where he’s free to do pretty much anything that he wants to. With this in mind, Blackbeard’s fruit could be the opposite.
This is because Blackbeard is known to have an uncanny ability to use more than one Devil Fruit at a time, which is something no one else can do. This may be a power given to him by his initial fruit, which would play off of his character and ambition since it has him seizing all the power and control for himself and leaving none for anyone else, like an oppressive force. Though this is speculation, it does end up making a lot of sense.
