Summary
- Mario Day is over, but various Mario Day sales are not.
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder and other games starring Mario are available for less at Nintendo all week long.
- Best Buy and GameStop also have various other Mario games on Switch available for less.
Mario Day came and went this year with nothing new to report from Nintendo. Somewhat surprising since this is Mario’s 40th anniversary year, but all of the big Mario reveals are presumably being saved for next month’s Switch 2 Direct. It’s not all bad news, though. To make up for a lack of Mario news, Nintendo and select other third party retailers are selling some of the plumber’s best games for less.
That’s right, even though it is no longer Mario Day, Mario Day sales on Switch games will continue all week long. Well, the one on the Nintendo eShop will, at least. Nintendo has slashed the prices of certain games in which Mario appears, and if you own a Switch, or have ever bought a first-party Switch game for someone as a gift, you’ll know that even eight years in, they are very rarely discounted.

The headliner in Nintendo’s week-long Mario Day sale is Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The sidescroller reimagined the 2D Mario formula for the first time in years and, in my opinion, is one of the best games to have been released during the Switch’s run. Usually $60, and worth every penny, you can currently pick up Wonder at the Nintendo eShop through the link in the box below for just $41.99.
Mario Games Are Still On Sale Even Though Mario Day Is Over
Why Limit Discounted Switch Games To A Single Day?
There’s an even newer Mario game on sale this week on the eShop – Mario vs. Donkey Kong. An overlooked remake that launched last year, Mario vs. DK is absolutely worth your time, especially while you can pick it up for $34.99. Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Maker 2, and even Luigi’s Mansion 3, a game where Mario isn’t in the lead role, are all available for less between now and March 16.
Nintendo isn’t the only place running a Mario Day sale even though Mario Day is over. Best Buy also has Mario games available for less, and they’re all titles that aren’t discounted on the eShop. Super Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are both available for $39.99, down from $60 each. Both games that will rank among the ten best Switch games when all is said and done that you should definitely own if you own a Switch.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a brand new 2D Mario game launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Reimagining the original Mario game format yet again, it will include a lot of firsts for the series such as Elephant Mario and a playable Princess Daisy.

Super Mario Odyssey brought the 3D platforming series to the Nintendo Switch for the first time. Launched in 2017, it sees Mario team up with a sentient hat named Cappy, as they look to save Princess Peach once again.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Join Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad on a quest to save the Sprixie Kingdom in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury! Rescue the Sprixie Princess and her followers by yourself or with three other players in this enhanced version of Super Mario 3D World.
However, my eye was drawn to a different game in Best Buy’s Mario Day sale – Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. Also down to $39.99 for Mario Day, the ported platformer is a great game and often gets overshadowed by Odyssey. The base game is worth $40, and the Bowser’s Fury addition makes it an absolute steal.
Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is also on sale for the same price at GameStop which is also still running a Mario Day sale. It’s also selling Mario vs. Donkey Kong for even less than you can pick it up for on the eShop, and despite Mario not making an appearance, Princess Peach: Showtime is also on sale.
