Rachell Marie Hofstetter, aka Valkyrae, is one of the most prominent streamers in the world. Initially getting her start on Twitch, the online personality and content creator recently concluded her five-year contract with YouTube, which ran from 2020 through January 5, coinciding with her 33rd birthday. In her first week back on her original platform, Valkyrae became Twitch’s top female streamer, showcasing how immensely popular she is. However, not all of that attention is necessarily good, as proven by her recent harrowing encounter.

During the March 9 episode of her ‘Press ESC’ podcast, the YouTube-turned-Twitch streaming star revealed she’s “moved at least once a year” due in part to fear of stalkers and getting doxxed. This follows Valkyrae, along with fellow prominent Twitch streamers Emiru, ExtraEmily, and Cinna broadcasting an IRL stream live from the famous Santa Monica Pier in California where they were aggressively approached by a stream sniper who lunged at the group of women, threatening to “kill” them.

In addition to feeling the need to move regularly in order to avoid stalkers and the like, Valkyrae plans to make purchasing said permanent home “as private as possible,” especially given the threats she’s received both online and now in-person. Despite the frightening situation on the Santa Monica Pier, Valkyrae has promised to find the man behind the attack on her and her fellow streamers, urging anyone with any information regarding their attacker to come forward.

While Valkyrae and company’s situation is certainly terrifying, they unfortunately aren’t the only female streamers to have recently been attacked. Popular streamer Amouranth was recently attacked by gunmen, in which a trio of assailants entered her home and demanded her cryptocurrency – and pistol-whipped her – before being chased off by her armed husband. She was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The string of incidents against some of the world’s top female streamers highlights quite a frightening trend, underscoring the importance of streamers maintaining a level of safety and privacy whenever possible, especially being in the public eye.
