Summary
- Invincible’s upcoming finale features a brutal showdown with Conquest, one of the most sadistic villains yet.
- Conquest represents a different breed of Viltrumite, focused on destruction rather than indoctrination.
- The release of a Sneak Peek clip instead of a trailer hints at an intense, spoiler-heavy finale on March 13th.
In lieu of a season finale trailer, the creators of Invincible have just released a fifty-two-second Sneak Peek clip before the release of Episode 8: “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up”. Mark is about to face down one of the most sadistic characters in the Invincible canon.
Invincible fans are still reeling from last week’s penultimate episode, “What Have I Done?” Audiences had to watch in horror as a multitude of interdimensional psychopathic Invincibles teamed up to unleash an onslaught of destruction and terror around the globe. It was a calculated attempt at revenge by Season 2’s antagonist, Angstrom Levy. For the most part, it succeeded in ruining the superhero’s reputation and devastating his personal life. Now that he’s associated with the deaths of hundreds of thousands worldwide, the events of Chicago feel like a relative blip. Mark is understandably upset and looking for a way to vent his frustrations.

Invincible: 8 Differences Between the Comic and the Show
Despite being a mostly faithful adaptation of Invincible, the Prime Video animated series does have a few differences worth mentioning.
The creators of Invincible announced on Twitter yesterday that fans would be receiving a tease of Invincible’s upcoming fight with Conquest, one of the most brutal generals in the Viltrum Empire. The clip has been released and is now available to watch on YouTube. Audiences are getting a chance to see just how cruel and severely deranged Invincible’s next big bad is.
Conquest gives a wholly antagonistic monologue, explaining why he’s unlike any other Viltrumite Invincible has previously had the displeasure of dealing with. Fans of the series have been theorizing that the Viltrumite Anissa (Shantel VanSanten), who instructed Mark to prepare for the arrival of the Empire back in Season 2, would be making a return in the finale. Cecil’s comments earlier in Episode 1 seemed to indicate another Viltrum match-up was on the cards: “Could he beat that Viltrumite woman who made us all s*** our pants three months ago?” Invincible is probably wishing that Anissa turned up for the showdown, as Conquest self-admittedly explains how he’s a step beyond the female Viltrumite.
Most of Viltrum’s soldiers, including Mark’s own father Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), have an overall philosophy. They are all staunchly indoctrinated into the nationalistic, expansionist, pure-blooded agenda of their Imperial government. Viltrum’s soldiers continue to remind traitors like Nolan (Omni-Man), that their betrayal and prioritization of lesser beings is viewed as disgusting. It appears that this is considered just as treasonous as killing other Viltrumites, and breaking this sacred bond is a one-way ticket to the executioner’s chair.
Conquest, however, is in another league of his own. He explains to Mark that while other Viltrumites like Anissa would waste time explaining “how the Viltrum Empire would turn this wretched planet into a utopia“, Conquest wouldn’t even bother with such an introduction. That doesn’t mean he’s not fiercely loyal; his dedication to the Empire spans thousands of years and conflicts. It’s just that he doesn’t care to tell inferior beings like Mark that he’s here “to spread the greatness of the Viltrum Empire“, or that it would “be stupid to resist.” He pushes aside the same doctrine we’ve heard from Nolan and Anissa to get to the point. Conquest desires only one thing:
“The truth is, I want you to resist.”
Conquest’s purpose on Earth isn’t to give Mark warnings, or help him make the planet ready for Viltrum’s arrival. The general is here to wreak havoc by teaching Invincible a lesson. This sadistic villain is going to be Mark’s greatest challenge yet, as there is no chance of bargaining with this savage foe:
“There is no greater pleasure than feeling the warmth of my fists drenched in blood.”
Mark isn’t really in the mood for a conversation anyway. At the end of the last episode, Invincible retorted: “The only thing I wanna do right now, is hit something as hard as I can.” So, it seems like Conquest is about to get his wish fulfilled. However, he may find that Invincible is stronger than he appears. The Sneak Peek ends with Conquest being clocked around the face. His surprise is quickly hidden behind a witty remark: “Okay. That’s a start.” But the invader may be in for a slightly tougher contest than he originally planned.
The creators of Invincible explained in their Twitter post that the Sneak Peek was released instead of a trailer primarily because any cut they had managed to make contained “too much insanity, too many spoilers.” This is evidently going to be a show-stopping finale for the series’ third season.
The finale of Invincible Season 3 is coming to Amazon Prime on March 13th.
