The heartbeat sensor in Monster Hunter Wilds is a great way to try and gauge a large monster’s health, but can also be used to know when they are enraged or not. Reading a monster is crucial for knowing how and when to attack.
The Agitator Skill helps give your hunter a few buffs when a monster is enraged, helping you match their energy and stay ahead in the fight. Here’s how the Agitator skill works along with how to know when a large monster is enraged.

How Does The Agitator Skill Work In Monster Hunter Wilds
The Agitator skill only activates when a large monster is enraged, and it will boost your attack and affinity the entire time the monster is enraged. To know when a monster is enraged, be sure to track them with the Scoutflies to get their heartbeat sensor along the bottom left side of the screen to activate. The color of the lines indicates how mad the monster is, with blue meaning fairly calm and red meaning enraged.
- A notification will appear along the right side of the screen whenever Agitator activates or deactivates.
- The corresponding buffs will appear above your health bar in the top left of the screen while the skill is active.
- Monsters losing the enraged status will immediately end the Agitator skill.
- Monsters can stay enraged when fighting other monsters, though this shouldn’t be relied on.
There’s no way to forcefully enrage a monster. Instead, you’ll just need to fight it as usual. After dealing a good amount of damage, the monster will get mad, and the heartbeat will turn red. Your Palico may also call out that the monster is enraged, helping you not take your eyes off your enemy. Monsters being enraged will usually see them burning themselves out after a few minutes of fighting. You’ll also see their heartbeat go back to blue when exiting combat for any reason.
While enraged, monsters will attack much more often and more frantically, so consider using traps to slow them down and take advantage of this skill.
