Does Sung Jin-Woo’s Sister Become a Hunter?

Does Sung Jin-Woo's Sister Become a Hunter?

Summary

  • Jin-Ah plays a crucial role as Jin-Woo’s support system and inspiration.
  • Jin-Ah’s non-hunter status raises questions about her potential awakening.

To become a hunter in Solo Leveling, an individual must first manifest magical abilities or undergo a process of awakening before their rank evaluation and receiving an official license. Our protagonist, Sung Jin-Woo, was able to awaken his abilities as an E-rank hunter, but many are curious to find out whether his younger sister can also awaken and become a hunter in Solo Leveling.

Hunters participate in dungeon raids for a variety of reasons, including making a living, personal growth, or just pure entertainment. Sung Jin-Woo is no exception, as he goes hunting not just to support the hospitalization of his sick mother but also to send his sister to school. Fortunately, Jin-Woo’s sister is smart and responsible, making her a reliable support system. These traits, when combined, might make Jin-Woo’s sister an invaluable ally in a dungeon raid.

There have been a few good Solo Leveling arcs so far, but why does Jeju Island get a disproportionate hype?

Who Is Sung JIn-Woo’s Sister

Jin-Woo’s Sister Is His Personal Support and Emotional Anchor

Sung Jin-Woo’s younger sister is none other than Jin-Ah, an ordinary high school student who wants to help ease the burden of her brother. She can be easily recognized by her iconic ponytail, which she typically sports at school and at home. Most importantly, Jin-Ah plays a supporting role in the series, serving as one of Jin-Woo’s biggest inspirations and motivators to keep going despite the many challenges that come his way.

Although Jin-Ah rarely appears in Solo Leveling, both in the anime and the manhwa, her importance in Jin-Woo’s life is incredibly huge. Even Yoo Jin-Ho, Jin-Woo’s self-proclaimed little brother, would be unable to replace Jin-Ah, despite the number of times they have supported each other in dungeon raids and so on. If Jin-Woo loses Jin-Ah, there would most likely be extreme consequences, since he may experience an emotional collapse resulting in a nation or perhaps a race being wiped out.

You’ve drunk too much. Alcohol is poison to the body.” —Sung Jin-Ah to Sung Jin-Woo

For the most part, Jin-Ah keeps her older brother grounded in his humanity. Her presence keeps Jin-Woo from embracing the full darkness of his abilities and succumbing to power. She also provides Jin-Woo with a sense of normalcy, as shown whenever they are at home, exchanging banter like any other ordinary siblings.

Sung Jin-Ah’s Personality and Strength

Sung Jin-Ah has a playful and cheerful demeanor despite the tragedy that struck their family—her mother is afflicted with the Eternal Slumber disease and her father has been missing for over a decade. She always has a smile on her face and takes the time to tease her brother about dating and finding a girlfriend. This shows how strong-willed Jin-Ah is and how she always looks for the good out of her unfortunate situation.

If you get hurt one more time, I’m going to throw away studying and work instead so you can quit being a hunter! —Sung Jin-Ah to Sung Jin-Woo

Notably, Jin-Ah excels in her studies, which is a huge surprise for Jin-Woo, who couldn’t fathom how her sister outperforms the other students. Because of these traits, even Jin-Ah’s teacher is concerned about her possible awakening, as one of their students, Han Song-Yi, has already been awakened, albeit her E-rank status. This is not entirely impossible to happen, as Jin-Ah is more than determined to drop out of school and find a job to sustain the needs of her family in the event that Jin-Woo gets seriously hurt while hunting.

What Could Be Jin-Ah’s Role?

While many fans anticipate Jin-Ah’s possible awakening, Solo Leveling has never shown her becoming a hunter or manifesting any kind of magic abilities. Despite being Sung Jin-Woo’s sister, Jin-Ah lives her life as an ordinary human without any powers. Jin-Ah may have had some close encounters with death or been exposed to high-level magic energy, but she was still unable to awaken, despite expectations that she would make a major development in the series.

If Jin-Ah had manifested abilities, she could have been a game-changing support or healer, similar to Min Byung-Gu, an S-rank healer who supported his fellow S-rank hunters during the Jeju Island Arc. After all, there aren’t many healers in the country, especially since Byung-Gu died and Joo-Hee retired. Given Jin-Ah’s splendor, she might be able to help her brother in battle, although it would also be difficult for the two of them to continue worrying about each other while fighting side by side.
