On the other hand, Liandrin feels compelled to reveal something about the Mother and accuses her of breaking the Tower’s rules by meeting with Moiraine (played by Rosamund Pike) and Rand al’Thor (played by Josha Stradowski), a young man proclaiming to be the Dragon Reborn. As per Liandrin, the tower was bound to capture the Dragon Reborn, but she accuses the Mother of letting him go. However, the Mother accuses Liandrin of pledging herself to The Shadow and called her a Dark Friend.

This sequence sets the tone for the things to come. This tense and politically charged sequence immerses viewers in the power struggles and betrayals brewing within the White Tower. The cinematography remains top-notch and there’s no doubt that it is one of the most gorgeous-looking shows on television right now. The vast landscapes, and wide shots have been used to immerse viewers in the grandeur and scale of The Wheel of Time’s world, emphasizing both its beauty and its looming dangers. But if you are not a fan of really talkative shows, then this season might test your patience, as much of its tension and intrigue unfold through layered conversations. This season is based on the 1992 novel The Shadow Rising, which is the longest book in the series and consists of 393,823 words. Some plotlines might be harder to follow because of everything that’s happening on the screen. Still, the season manages to be intriguing because of its detailed storytelling.

The performances are brilliant, especially Stradowski, Fleetwood, Priyanka Bose, Ceara Coveney, Laia Costa, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Natasha O’Keeffe, who bring incredible depth and nuance to their characters, making every moment feel emotionally charged and narratively significant. Their performances elevate the tension, drawing viewers into the power struggles, moral dilemmas, and personal conflicts that define this season. Pike is brilliant as always and every time she appears on the screen, she gives us one more reason to love her. One of the best actors of this generation. On the other hand, Zoe Robins, Madeilene Madden, Marcus Rutherford, Daniel Hanney, and Donal Finn are exceptional in their respective roles.

It is one of those seasons that would require a lot of composure. The makers have done a commendable job in condensing so much material in eight episodes, and that’s one of the reasons why there is less silence. This is the only drawback of the season, but for those who are patient, the payoff will be even more rewarding than expected.
