8 Hardest Bosses In Split Fiction, Ranked

8 Hardest Bosses In Split Fiction, Ranked

Part of what makes Split Fiction so impressive is just how much variety is captured inside just one game. That’s why it’s quite surprising when you realize that the game doesn’t feature that much combat. Sure, there are fights sprinkled throughout, but it doesn’t feature as much as it would in a standard 3D platformer.

All good writing is inspired by something.

While the normal enemy encounters in Split Fiction are quite weak, the same can’t be said for the bosses. Each of Split Fiction’s bosses is perfectly designed to take advantage of that level’s unique mechanic, and they all look fantastic. But out of all of these bosses, which provides the hardest challenge?

Dentist

Chapter 5

Dentist boss fight in Split Fiction.

For the most part, most of the side stories in Split Fiction don’t feature that much combat, but a clear exception to this rule is the sweet-filled side story, where you play as two of Mio’s teeth, platforming around an edible wonderland.

The level has a twist ending, where you accidentally end up summoning an evil robotic dentist. With limited movement in tooth form, you’re pretty vulnerable to most of his attacks, and you only have a few small chances to counter-attack. Once you work out his patterns, he’s not too tough, but with how imposing he is, it can be pretty hard to work out exactly where to hit him.

Ice King

Chapter 3

Snow King boss fight in Split Fiction.-1

All throughout the game’s first full-length fantasy chapter, you’ll hear Zoe talk about how threatening and evil her Ice King antagonist is, and that’s why it’s such a surprise when you get to the end only to find a cute (if not sassy) cat.

But as soon as Mio stops petting him, he transforms into his giant, much more threatening form, and you’ll have to do battle. Ice King has some devastating AOE attacks, and his homing projectiles can be trouble if Mio and Zoe are too close together. If you manage to lose track of his attacks, both you and your player two can easily die at the same time and need to restart.

6

Megalith

Chapter 5

Megalith boss fight in Split Fiction.-1

Megalith is another of Zoe’s antagonists, but unlike Ice King in Chapter 3, you’ll see him all throughout the chapter, chasing down you and your baby dragons, forcing you into some intense chase sequences along the way.

8 Games To Play If You Like Split Fiction

Hazelight Studios’ latest game, Split Fiction, is a blast. If you’re looking for more similar experiences, here are some other great games.

However, if you manage to make it to the end of the level, your once tiny dragons will have grown to their full size, and you can finally fight back against the terrifying Megalith. For the first phase, you’ll need to chase down the behemoth while riding your dragons and avoiding obstacles, but once you get close enough, Mio and Zoe will finally be able to mount the beast and take out each of his weak spots while platforming around his body.

5

Parking Attendant

Chapter 2

Parking Attendant boss fight in Split Fiction.

One of the more entertaining bosses in the otherwise dark second chapter of Split Fiction is the evil Parking Attendant. After making it through the trap-filled car park, you’ll finally get to the top where you can launch your counter-attack.

The chances of landing hits on the Parking Attendant are few and far between, especially with how many attacks he aims at the tiny platform you have to work with. But if you get the opportunity, Mio will get inside the boss, while Zoe launches attacks from the outside, finally giving you the opportunity to take down this early-game challenge.

4

Hydra

Chapter 7

Hydra boss fight in Split Fiction.

All throughout Chapter 7, Mio and Zoe will be ambushed by the massive Hydra, but it won’t be until the very end, when Zoe is on the brink of an emotional breakdown, that you’ll finally be able to take the multi-headed beast down.

The level is broken into side-scrolling obstacle courses where Mio and Zoe will need to reunite in the middle, and when they do, they can launch their spirits to chop off the Hydra’s heads one by one. But if you know anything about a Hydra, you’ll know that this plan catches up with them, and all the heads regrow, and one manages to eat the pair. Unfortunately for the Hydra, this spells its downfall, as once inside (after some drama and a little more platforming), the heroes find the heart of the monster and take it down with a giant bow and arrow attack.

3

Factory Warden

Chapter 4

Factory Warden boss fight in Split Fiction.

For a mid-chapter boss, the Factory Warden is one of the tougher challenges you’ll face throughout the whole game. If the Factory Warden is one thing, it’s persistent, with just as many phases as the chapter finale bosses.

The only advantage Mio and Zoe have is the catapults they can use to launch themselves across the giant arena to reach weak spots, but even then, the agile robot makes it a challenge to keep up. Even with coordinated, colour-coded attacks, Mio and Zoe will still have to fend off drones, acid pools, and a flying final phase, before they can finally crush this boss into a hydraulic press.

2

Dark Mio

Chapter 6

Dark Mio boss fight in Split Fiction.

All throughout the sixth chapter of Split Fiction, Mio will have to confront the self-doubt and hatred that are the sources of the walls she’s built around herself. This culminates in the final encounter with the horrifying cyber Dark Mio.

Split Fiction Vs. It Takes Two: Which Game Is Better?

The successor to It Takes Two seems to be a better game in every regard. But is Split Fiction really that good?

In spite of its unoriginal name, Dark Mio is one of the most creative and challenging enemies you’ll face. Just dodging her first onslaught of AOE attacks is tough enough, but it gets even harder when the arena switches up and Mio manages to hack into the boss’ brain.

With even more projectiles and attacks to dodge, both inside and out, Zoe will need to keep up the attacks from the exterior, while Mio sabotages the boss’ internal workings. It all culminates in a satisfying scythe-impalement that finally allows Mio to move on.

1

Rader

Chapter 8

Rader boss fight in Split Fiction.

Rader starts off as a potentially villainous mastermind, who (as we all suspected) turns into a definitely villainous not-so-mastermind, who has to hack into Mio and Zoe’s simulation to try and stop their internal attacks on his machine.

This final conflict is the longest battle in the game, and Rader will use all the tricks at his disposal to bend reality, and break the fourth wall. The entire battle will keep you guessing, going from shooting, to platforming, to side-scrolling, until you can finally take him down with the split screen itself. It’s a perfect culmination of what the whole game has been leading to, and will test you on everything you’ve learned.
