Where To Find Nightflower Pollen In Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter has always been about resource management, and a lot of that is centered around gathering up copious amounts of materials. Most come from monsters, many come from roaming the world. Some are even a little random. Yet none of them are as hard as the ones that make you realise the moon is important.

Sinister Cloth lets you make Monster Hunter Wilds’ Death Stench armor. Now where do you find it?

Monster Hunter Wilds puts a renewed focus on exploration, really making you be immersed in this world. And that means paying attention to the season you’re in and the time of day. You need to be aware of all of it if you want some Nightflower Pollen, one of the game’s rarest items of all. Here’s the complicated process of finding it.

Moon Phases

Nightflower Pollen brings us to explaining a mechanic of Monster Hunter Wilds you probably didn’t even know existed – moon phases. Have you ever looked up at the sky in-game and seen that the moon can come in various different forms as time passes? Just like reality, the moon goes through phases of waxing and waning, culminating in a full moon every seven days.

Nightflower Pollen, which is acquired from Ephemeral Bloom gathering points, is only available during a Full Moon. This means you have to wait until a full moon is in the sky for it to even appear. Until then, they are entirely unmarked on the map, though you can still find the dormant plants before that.

This is where it gets slightly complicated. While Ephemeral Bloooms only appear during a full moon, they specifically bloom as evening turns to night just before a full moon rises. This means you can’t rest until night time on the day the full moon is in the sky, or else the Ephemeral Blooms simply won’t, well, bloom.

Instead, you have to rest until the moon is a single phase before a full moon. Do this by resting at camp in the Windward Plains. This is easiest at the Oasis camp or others in the desert as it gives the most unobstructed view of the sky. These plants bloom during both the Fallow and the Plenty, though try to do this during the Plenty when you have a clearer view of the sky.

After spotting the last stage of the waxing moon in the sky, rest until evening instead of night time. Then, as evening turns to night, the Ephemeral Blooms will appear on the map. Run to their locations now and gather from them. They will stay active for the whole night, but it’s best to be safe and get them done quickly.

After the Ephemeral Blooms appear, they can be filtered through on the map, even if you’ve never gathered from them before.

Every Ephemeral Bloom Location

After spending countless time and lots of Guild Points resting for a full moon, you’ll want to know where to start looking for Ephemeral Blooms. It’s important not to waste time here running around in the dark, or else you’ll have to wait another seven in-game days for them to bloom again.

Ephemeral Blooms can be found in both the Windward Plains and the Scarlet Forest, and there are two locations in each region where they appear. They are as follows:

  • Windward Plains

    • Area 10, by the tree near the entrance to the Scarlet Forest.
    • Area 3, which must be reached by gliding from a higher area with your Seikret or by using the nearby Wedge Beetle
  • Scarlet Forest

    • Area 17, by some honey near Area 14.
    • Area 18, right by the pop-up campsite.

The Windward Plains are quite flat, and the flowers are both found in areas with a clear view of the sky. The opposite is true in the Scarlet Forest. Since the forest is so dense, the Ephemeral Blooms only appear in the canopy of the trees, though thankfully aren’t too hidden otherwise.

If you want to gather all the Ephemeral Blooms in one night, make sure to move manually through the two regions. Fast traveling will potentially reset the Ephemeral Blooms, meaning you won’t be able to gather from them until the next full moon. Best to be careful with this one.

One unfortunate aspect of Ephemeral Blooms – they are not affected by any gathering skills, meaning you can only ever get one Nightflower Pollen at a time from a single Ephemeral Bloom.

Uses For Nightflower Pollen

The Nightflower Pollen that is acquired from Ephemeral Blooms has one rather specific purpose. Despite being an item obtained from the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, it’s usage has nothing to do with those areas. Instead, it is used for trading with Sekka from Suja.

Sekka, like Gawdygog from the Wudwud Hideout, tends to trade for very rare items. Her items are quite unique, and are exceptionally useful for use in Wyvernian Melding. She often allows you to trade for Gold Melding Tickets, which are worth 1,200 points while melding. Therefore, farming Nightflower Pollen in turn becomes a means to farm Decorations.
