Summary
- Death Stranding 2’s release date was revealed via a new trailer during a panel at this weekend’s SXSW.
- There will be three editions of the sequel to choose from when pre-orders go live on March 17, 2025.
- There’s a standard, digital deluxe, and $230 collector’s edition that comes with a Magellan Man statue.
It was confirmed at this past weekend’s SXSW that Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is not only still on course to be here in 2025, but it will be released, seemingly as a PS5 exclusive, on June 26. We also know when we will be able to pre-order Death Stranding 2 and everything about the three editions we’ll have to choose from.
Quite a few games were missing from last month’s State Of Play, Death Stranding 2 being one of them. That was clearly so that Hideo Kojima could do his thing at SXSW instead and have all of the spotlight. Considering the reaction to the fantastic new trailer, that was almost certainly the right decision.

You would think after a trailer like that, especially since it ended with a release date reveal, pre-orders for Death Stranding 2 would be available immediately. Kojima doesn’t tend to do things by the book though, and even the highly anticipated Kojima Productions’ sequel’s preorders have a release date.
Death Stranding 2’s Pre-Order Details Have Been Revealed
You’ve Got A Week To Decide Which Edition You Want
Regardless of the edition you plan on picking up, pre-orders for all three of them will open on March 17, 2025. More specifically, 10 am local time on March 17, so no need to worry about them selling out of that pricey collector’s edition if you live in a part of the world where 10 am EST is the middle of the night.
Following in the footsteps of the original Death Stranding, On The Beach’s collector’s edition is a big and expensive one. Art cards, a Dollman figure, and the thing that will have driven the price up the most, a 15-inch Magellan Man statue. There’s even a letter from Hideo Kojima in there and it will all be packed away inside a fancy collector’s box. All of that’s going to cost you $230.
If you don’t fancy spending $230 on the next Death Stranding game, and you’re not that bothered about owning a Magellan Man statue, there will be two much cheaper editions that will also be available to pre-order starting on March 17. The digital deluxe edition comes with a bunch of in-game extras, and there’s of course a standard edition that will be getting a physical and digital release. Regardless of which edition you go for, they’ll all come with three skeleton skins and a custom quokka hologram as pre-order bonuses.
