Memorize The Bonus Board

First things first, take a good long look at the bonus board until it sinks into the soft tissue of your brain. It’s found next to the mission door and it’s your lifeline to what shots work, and what don’t.

As an example, the carnage modifier adds a bonus for capturing battle scenes. The gore qualifies for anything that features blood, body parts, organs and death. Keeping a few of them in mind means you can line up yourself for better shots easier as you’ll have a general idea of what kind of picture multiplies your image value the most.

Bring In Some Friends

It’s a little redundant by this point in multiplayer games to recommend bringing in a friend, but in The Headliners you really should be bringing in someone else. Death comes out of nowhere, your runs are finite, and it’s easy to lose all your shots.

Having a buddy means your camera and its pictures can get rescued. Plus that extra set of eyes can be used for better angles. Or, if you’re creative you can set up your friends for more interesting shots that include them with a monster, being chased, dismembered or even killed. After all, it’s double points if you capture a journalist being killed in the shot according to the game.

Try To Get A Lot In The Frame

A Lot Of Anarchy Is Always Ideal

To springboard off things being in the frame, in the case of The Headliners you’ll often want to go for quantity over quality when it comes to things being shown in the shot. In practice this means having a lot of monsters, action, gore and events popping off in the frame all at once.

Good times to do this are during scary Kaiju attack scenes toward the end of missions, especially if you get either Slender or the Velocialien turning up as they like to toss stuff around. The military are also worth following too as they’ll cause a lot of carnage in your shots with their rockets.

When you’re taking shots in The Headliners there’s one thing you’ll need to remember, being close is good but a selfie is even better, if extremely dangerous. This is because of the way the game works out bonuses for pictures and you can cheese it a little.

For example, if you get a monster to aggro onto you, then swap into Selfie Mode on the camera regardless of how close the creature is you’ll earn the tag “Chasing Journalist” on your photo. This adds a nice boost for a higher ranked photo and all it requires is pressing one extra button and lining up the camera. If you can time this with another Journalist running in the frame, the points are doubled.

Remember that you also need to rotate your character 180 degrees after switching to Selfie Mode as it won’t rotate your character for you. These crucial seconds of confusion can lead to a lot of accidental deaths.

Lure Monsters And Survivors Towards Carnage

There’s No Witnesses After All

So this might sound a little sadistic, but a good tip is to create some carnage of your own for a good shot. There’s a saying in Journalism: “If it bleeds, it leads”. And that’s no different here. Shots featuring horrible things happening will harvest a higher amount of points and sometimes you’ll have to stage them.

For example, as you’re exploring you’ll encounter hidden survivors that will follow you. It’s worth leading these unfortunate souls into traps or other monsters, especially the Infected Bug, Tormentor, or String Trap. Even though this will kill the survivor, you’ll get a good shot out of it. The same applies to the Military if they appear, lure them toward monsters or Kaijus for killer shots featuring a lot of action for a higher reward.

Try to remember you’re out there to capture horrible events, not help out.

Consider Bear Traps And Emotes

When you first load up the shop you may have noticed a certain item known as the Bear Trap. At first glance this may seem like a waste of cash, but it’s actually very useful. Especially in the higher difficulty runs as your game goes on.

The Bear Traps can pin monsters of a certain size in place. This in turn allows you to get nice and close for a good photo, or get your group around it for a big funny emote that will net you some extra points when you hand your photographs in at the end of a run. Its fairly cheap, though make sure you’re only spending that if you can afford it as there’s better stuff worth saving up for.

The Bear Trap is great for monsters like Parasites, Dogs and Tormentors as they can close the gap on you fairly quickly.

Higher Difficulties Mean More Points

If You Make It That Far..

One of the best and most stress inducing features of The Headliners is the point quotes and difficulty level. As the game goes on, the difficulty increases alongside the points quota per three missions, as well as the number and type of monsters that appear. Essentially, the higher it goes the more things you’ll run into and the more points you can harvest.

Rare creatures are denoted by a new colour, usually red or blue, or a different model in some cases. Some of them are often hidden away in interior environments way off in a dark corner, but it’s worth hunting them down as landing a shot with them in it will get you better rewards.

These are considered the best amongst the community and they’re a great source of inspiration for what kind of shots the game is looking for.
