Resurrection’s Timeline Looks Like It’s Been Confirmed

Resurrection's Timeline Looks Like It's Been Confirmed

Summary

  • Dexter: Resurrection picks up after New Blood in early 2022, seemingly confirmed by set photos in New York.
  • Dexter survived his injuries, but it’s unclear how he avoided prison.
  • The show will feature Harrison Morgan and Angel Batista returning to the Dexter-verse, setting up various intriguing possibilities.

Dexter: Resurrection is the long-awaited follow-up to 2021’s limited series New Blood. It sees Michael C. Hall return to the titular role of Dexter Morgan. It was initially thought that the serial killer with a code had died at the end of New Blood, after being shot by his teenage son, Harrison, but it was Showtime’s biggest ever hit, so he was ‘resurrected’. Michael C. Hall teased that Resurrection would pick up soon after the events of the limited series, and set photos have now hinted at this being correct.

Dexter Morgan’s survival was confirmed in the first episode of the prequel series, Original Sin, as he was rushed to hospital as he narrated his origin story as his life flashed before his eyes. It looks like there won’t be a time jump from that moment, and will take place in the weeks after the end of New Blood.

Dexter: New Blood was set in December 2021, in the local town of Iron Lake in upstate New York, where Dexter Morgan was now residing under the name of Jim Lindsay, after faking his own death nine years ago. The former Miami Metro forensics lab geek was shot by his teenage son in the New Blood finale, which took place on December 27. The opening sequence of Original Sin picked up immediately after that, and showed Dexter surviving his injuries.

Michael C. Hall told Variety in an interview back in August 2024, that the sequel series, Resurrection, would take place soon after the New Blood finale. According to set photos obtained by Dexter Daily, it looks like the timeline for Resurrection might have been confirmed. Uma Thurman’s character, Charley, is driving a car with a registration sticker with the year 2022 on it. Resurrection is currently filming in New York, and set photos have revealed the icy conditions, so it’s clearly set in the wintertime.

It’s Unclear What Dexter Morgan WIll Be Up To In Resurrection, But The Set Photos Confirm He Isn’t In Prison

Dexter Morgan has clearly recovered from his near-fatal injuries in Resurrection‘s timeline, as Michael C. Hall has been spotted filming in and around New York City, with his iconic character looking very healthy. This might suggest that a bit of time has passed between December 27, 2021, and the action that takes place in 2022, but weeks seem more likely than months. Dexter’s dark passenger could be rearing its ugly head again to take down Kristen Ritter’s character, Mia, who will be a guest star in the show. As fans know, being a guest star in the Dexter-verse usually means ending up on Dexter’s kill table. However, this could be wide of the mark, and fans will have to wait until this summer to find out, when the show premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime.

The big question in the minds of a lot of fans is how exactly did Dexter escape a prison sentence after he was revealed as the Bay Harbor Butcher? Angel Batista was on his way to Iron Lake to confront his old Miami Metro colleague and friend at the end of New Blood. Batista will surely be on his trail in Resurrection, with David Zayas confirmed as a series regular in the series. Harrison Morgan is also set to feature, so Dexter might go on the run with him. An ironic idea to set Dexter free would be to have law enforcement see the potential in Dexter’s unique crime-solving abilities, and they hand him an olive branch of sorts. There are so many possibilities for the Dexter-verse, but spoilers are being protected at all costs, despite the leaks of on-set photos.
