Sony has officially revealed a brand-new PlayStation 5 console bundle that will come with the critically-acclaimed 3D platformer Astro Bot. Since introducing the PlayStation 5 in 2020, Sony has released only a few special console bundles for its Disc, Digital, and Pro variants.
Past PS5 console bundles have included the likes of Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Lately, rumors have persisted that Sony was planning a new PS5 console bundle that would include Game of the Year winner Astro Bot as part of the package. As it turns out, those rumors were true, with Sony now officially confirming the bundle’s existence.

Astro Bot Update Adds New DLC Level
Adhering to its DLC schedule, Astro Bot releases a new free level along with a bot that surprisingly honors an iconic PlayStation 4 game.
According to PlayStation’s social media accounts, a new PS5 console bundle with a standard PS5 DualSense controller and Astro Bot as the pack-in game will launch at some point later this week. So far, only a Disc version of the bundle has been confirmed, though it’s likely the Astro Bot pack-in will be a digital code. Sony stopped short of revealing a specific release date or pricing information for the new PS5 bundle, but it’s expected to cost $499.99 or thereabouts. It’s possible that this bundle will be cheaper, but again, pricing information has not been revealed yet, so that’s just speculation at this time. In any case, Astro Bot was the 2024 Game of the Year winner and its 95 overall rating makes it one of the highest-rated games of all time, so it should make for a great PS5 bundle.
PS5 Bundle Includes Astro Bot
Those that buy the new PS5 console bundle will technically be getting access to two Astro series games, not just Astro Bot. While the critically-acclaimed Astro Bot is the reason to get most excited about the new PS5 bundle, those that buy the system will also get Astro’s Playroom, which is a pack-in title for all PS5 systems. For the uninitiated, Astro’s Playroom is the precursor to Astro Bot, providing a short but sweet 3D platforming experience that serves as a showcase of the DualSense controller’s unique features.
Astro Bot has been a sales success for Sony, so one has to imagine that the franchise will continue with more games. We already know that Astro Bot‘s success has convinced Sony to pursue more family-friendly titles, so here’s hoping that the company’s long-neglected classic 3D platformers make comebacks sooner rather than later. While there have been consistent new Ratchet & Clank releases over the years, Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper have been neglected for quite some time and most certainly deserve to have new adventures built for newer hardware.
