The story campaign in Monster Hunter Wilds is more of a glimpse at the game’s different worlds with a quick tour of some of the most terrifying monsters in the game with weakened stats. So, it’s safe to say that the real challenge begins once the credits roll, as the player will eventually get to feel the true power of each monster.
Furthermore, some monsters will only appear in the game’s world after beating the story, offering some new loot and drops to build better High Rank weapons and armor pieces. Giant Beak is one of those drops that is only available in High Rank.

How To Get Giant Beak
The only way to obtain the Giant Beak is to slay Yian Kut-Ku. This is a monster that the players will have to hunt in the first mission of Chapter 4, right after wrapping up the story campaign. So, if you are lucky enough, you will get at least one Giant Beak through this mission, but for more instances, you must keep returning to these flying monsters.
Thankfully, there is an Event Quest in Monsters Hunter Wilds at the moment named “Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo” that puts the player against a 4-Star Yian Kut-Ku. Knowing that Event Quests are replayable, this is currently the best way to farm Giant Beak in the game.
While Yian Kut-Kus usually roam around in a group, it’s not possible for the player to slay all of them, as the game only tracks one Yian Kut-Ku after it flees to another location, which makes following the other ones very difficult, if not impossible.
Knowing that Yian Kut-Ku lives in Scarlet Forest, exploring the jungle and hoping for the monster to appear on the map is another way to slay it and acquire the Giant Beak. Just keep in mind that the giant bird has some quick tail attacks that can be repeated in a random pattern. So don’t stay too long next to its tail. It’s also worth mentioning that Yian Kut-Ku is vulnerable to both Ice and Paralysis, which makes these elements quite effective against the monster, dealing extra damage with every hit.
What Is The Giant Beak Used For?
The most obvious use case of Giant Beak is for the Kut-Ku armor set. The coil and vambraces in both variants of the armor set require four Giant Beaks overall. Aside from that, any weapon in the Yian Kut-Ku tree requires four Giant Beaks for its Level 2 variant. That being said, not all the weapons have a Yian Kut-Ku variant. Here is the list of weapons that require Giant Beaks:
- Chicken Decapitator 2 (Great Sword)
- Yian Kut-Ku Pike 2 (Insect Glaive)
- Yian Kut-Ku’s Song 2 (Hunting Horn)
- Yian Kut-Ku Pick 2 (Hammer)
- Yian Kut-Ku Pair 2 (Dual Blades)
- Yian Kut-Ku Stave 2 (Bow)
- Yian Kut-Ku Anger 2 (Light Bowgun)
-
Yian Kut-Ku Cannon II
(Heavy Bowgun)
