How to Get and Use Farcaster in Monster Hunter Wilds

There are so many items, craftables, monster parts, and miscellaneous ingredients in Monster Hunter Wilds that it beggars belief. It can be incredibly hard to keep track of what everything is, what it does, and the best time to use it, especially for new players unfamiliar with the franchise who don’t have a base of knowledge to fall back on.

The Farcaster is a crafted item that can be used to instantly fast-travel in the middle of combat with a single press of a button. Since it is not found in the overworld as a collectible item, players will have to actively go out of their way and craft it in order to obtain one. Here’s how.

How to Make a Farcaster in Monster Hunter Wilds

crafting a farcaster using smokenut and exciteshroom in monster hunter wilds

Hunters can make a Farcaster in MH Wilds by combining one Smokenut and an Exciteshroom in the Crafting List under the Traps/Offense tab. It is a crafted item, which means players will have to actively go out of their way and manually make it in order to obtain one. You can access the Crafting List menu through the Start Menu or inside a tent.

  • Start Menu: Go to Items & Equipment -> Crafting List -> Traps/Offense.
  • Tent: Go to Item Menu -> Crafting List -> Traps/Offense.

Crafting through the Start Menu is easier, but you often won’t have the required ingredients in your Item Pouch because inventory space is limited.

Smokenut can be found in the Scarlet Forest, Oilwell Basin, and Ruins of Wyveria.

  • Scarlet Forest Area 6, 7, and 8.
  • Oilwell Basin Area 2 and 7

Exciteshroom Location

Exciteshroom can be found in Scarlet Forest, Iceshard Cliffs, and Ruins of Wyveria.

  • Iceshard Cliffs Area 6 and 11

How to Use Farcasters in Monster Hunter Wilds

using a farcaster in monster hunter wilds

Hunters can use Farcasters by equipping one to their Item Pouch and then assigning it to either a Custom Radial Menu or the Item Bar for easy access. Activating the Farcaster will immediately summon a Drake that will carry the player to the safety of the nearest campsite. This works both inside and outside combat.

You can only carry one Farcaster at a time.

Are Farcasters Worth Using in Monster Hunter Wilds

transferring a farcaster from the item box to the item pouch in monster hunter wilds

Unlike in previous Monster Hunter games, MH Wilds allows players to freely fast-travel during combat using the normal fast-travel system instead of having to rely on a Farcaster to do so. Due to this, a Farcaster is a lot less of a requirement than it was in previous games, and players can go out on a hunt without one. However, that doesn’t mean it’s useless. On the contrary, fast traveling normally requires first opening the map, then opening either the World Map or the local Fast Travel list, and then confirming it. Those menus are relatively easy to navigate, but it’s definitely not instant.

And since you cannot pause the game during combat, this means the monster could easily blindside you with a powerful attack while you’re in the middle of muddling through the menus. A Farcaster solves that problem by putting the fast-travel option on a single button press through the Custom Radial Menu option or the Item Bar.
