When it comes to iconic Naruto techniques, the Chidori certainly comes to mind, given that it is the signature Jutsu of one of the strongest shinobi of all time, Sasuke Uchiha. While Kakashi was famous for this technique at one point, Sasuke eventually made it his own, to the point where it is often associated with him. Sasuke didn’t just stop with the basic Chidori. Over the years, he continued to improve upon the technique greatly and came up with even more exciting versions of it, some fat stronger than others, and even capable of taking down the elites of the Naruto world, which just goes to show the true level of Sasuke’s genius in the story.

The Chidori is a powerful Lightning Release technique created by none other than Kakashi Hatake, the man who ended up becoming the Sixth Hokage of Konoha. However, Kakashi created the jutsu long before he was even a Jonin leader. As a memory of Team Minato, Kakashi often practiced with the Yellow Flash, and he developed immense powers. Kakashi had already learned the Rasengan at a very young age, which was quite surprising for many. Having picked up the technique from Minato, Kakashi essentially tried to take it a step further, and given that his chakra nature is Lightning, he wanted to create a variation of the Lightning Release Rasengan. However, when Kakashi did try to apply his nature to it, the Chidori was born instead. With a chirping sound and immense destructive power, Kakashi had created a one-hit technique strong enough to kill the vast majority in the world.

Of course, the Chidori came with its own issues and mostly, the issues were surrounding the speed that was required to thrust into the target. Due to the Chidori being a piercing technique, immense speed was required to tear through the target and this could only be attained by moving fast and in a straight line, and therein lay the problem. The Chidori exposes the user to counterattacks and the high-speed movement leads to tunnel vision, which makes it even more easy to counter. That is precisely why the Chidori can only be used with a Sharingan and why the jutsu is essentially incomplete without it. Eventually, Kakashi gained so much control over the jutsu that he managed to advance it to the next level by splitting a bolt of lightning, earning it the name Raikiri instead.
Years later, Kakshi taught the Chidori to his student, Sasuke Uchiha, and this was largely down to the fact that both he and Sasuke shared the Sharingan, and both of them had access to Lightning Release chakra. In many ways, Sasuke and Kakashi were alike, and thanks to the Sharingan it was possible for him to learn this power in just a month’s time.

While the Chidori was already a very strong technique on its own, it was quite clear to see that this technique was advanced even further by Sasuke Uchiha over the years. Upon gaining the Curse Mark, Sasuke could create a unique version of the Chidori which emitted black lightning. This was likely due to the sage chakra that empowered the Chidori through the Curse Mark, strengthening it even further.

After the timeskip of the Naruto series, Sasuke attained immense power, and thanks to his training with Orochimaru, Sasuke’s level of control over the Chidori had essentially surpassed even that of Kakashi. This was evident from the fact that Sasuke developed versions of the Chidori that Kakshi could never perform and they shocked even Orochimaru. One of the very first versions of the Chidori that Sasuke Uchiha came up with was Chidori Senbon. This Jutsu was incredibly powerful and saw shape manipulation of the next level being applied to the Chidori to create needles. These needles can have their strength altered based on the amount of chakra applied to them, and when it is combined with the incredible power of the Sharingan, it allows the user to hit the most dangerous spots with pinpoint accuracy, making it a deadly technique.
Sasuke also created a technique called Chidori Nagashi. This technique, just like the previous one, sees an immense level of shape transformation applied to it. It sees Sasuke coat his body in a stream of lightning, making it so that whoever comes into contact with him is paralyzed upon contact. This discharge of lightning through the body can reach a range of up to 5 meters. This technique can also be channeled through the ground to increase its range, and its strength is truly mesmerizing.

To counter the biggest weakness of the Chidori, that is, the tunnel vision and counters, Sasuke came up with a unique version, called Chidori Sharp Spear, and essentially, saw shape transformation of the highest style get applied to the original jutsu. This allowed Sasuke to channel a spear of Chidori over 5 meters, stabbing his enemies from a distance. This Jutsu could further change shape and deliver multiple lethal wounds to the enemy, and both its speed and intensity are just impossible to tackle.
The Pinnacle Of Sasuke’s Chidori
Six Paths Infusion With Chidori
While Sasuke showed immense control over the Chidori and made sure to maximize the application of shape transformation to the technique, he further developed the Jutsu with time. For instance, Sasuke learned to use the Chidori with his Susanoo, making it a devastating technique capable of tearing through meteorites with rather ease. Sasuke could further infuse his Chidori with Six Paths chakra, making for an even more powerful weapon. When Sasuke channeled Six Paths Chakra through the Chidori, it gave it a black tint and allowed Sasuke to use black lightning, essentially.
To top of all off, Sasuke even managed to infuse Kagutsuchi, the shape transformation of the black flames of Amaterasu, to the Chidori, making for an ultimate weapon. This Chidori version carried both the powerful lightning release and the ever-burning flames of Amaterasu, making it his ultimate weapon. Sasuke would’ve developed the Jutsu even further had he been given more time, but unfortunately, these are the vast majority of the important forms of the technique that he developed over the years.
