Summary

  • Lego’s next Nintendo set is a massive Mario Kart that’s made up of almost 2,000 pieces.
  • The set hasn’t officially been revealed but a retailer’s listing has gone live a little early.
  • Nintendo and Lego will likely make an official reveal later today to celebrate Mario Day.

Mario’s Lego collection took a big leap forward to kick off 2025 via the release of its first Mario Kart Lego sets. The spinoff collection is about to get a whole lot bigger as the biggest Mario Kart set to date has just been revealed and will be released on May 15, 2025.

It’s Mario Day and right now, aside from some Mario games being on sale, we’re not sure what Nintendo has in store, if anything. A new Mario Kart set has been revealed, neither Nintendo nor Lego were the ones to do the revealing. An official reveal might come later today, but since a store in Australia has let the cat out of the bag early, we now have our first look at the next Mario Kart set, and it’s a big one.

Nintendo’s Lego Game Boy Might Not Be What You Expected

The leak suggests the set might be a bit less elaborate than some of you might have been hoping for.

The set is the first of Lego’s Mario Kart offerings to be aimed at adult fans rather than younger builders, recommended for people 18 and over. That doesn’t mean younger Lego aficionados can’t give it a go though, of course. It’s going to be one of the more challenging Mario Lego sets to date, though, clocking in at a whopping 1,972 pieces.

Blue Shell Not Included

The finished set will have a big Lego Mario sitting in his red, blue, and white standard kart. The leaked images show that it can sit on a stand so that it can be posed in various ways, although it doesn’t look like the Mario and his kart are separate models. All of the images show Mario sitting in the kart, firmly attached to it, suggesting it’s all one big set once it’s complete.

As nice as it would be to have a standalone Lego Mario to go with your kart, Lego and Nintendo likely want to leave the door open for a similar Mario Lego set that they’ll make us buy separately.

Since the set hasn’t been officially revealed yet, we don’t know how much it’s going to cost. However, there’s a belief that it will cost $169.99. Considering the set’s size and complexity, that price is probably close to how much the Mario Kart will cost, even if it’s not exactly right.

Unfortunately, the Mario Kart set won’t be here in time for you to take advantage of Lego’s Mario Day offer. If you spend $40 or more on Mario sets at the Lego store today, you’ll get a Toad Pit Crew Lego set thrown in for no additional cost.
