God of War fans received disappointing news recently, as developer Santa Monica Studio confirmed that the franchise’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration won’t hold any major announcements. For months now, rumors and speculation surrounding such an important milestone for the God of War series have created high hopes, but any major announcements may be a longer wait than anticipated.
Santa Monica Studio revealed in a tweet that an anniversary panel featuring a variety of God of War voice actors would be part of the celebration. However, in that same tweet was the confirmation that there were not any planned announcements regarding future projects. This unfortunate update puts to rest months of rumors suggesting that a God of War Greek trilogy remaster is on the way; at least for now.

Considering that God of War‘s 20th anniversary would be the ultimate time to announce a planned trilogy, sequel, or spin-off, it now feels highly unlikely that Santa Monica Studio will bring forth any significant update this year. Ever since Ragnarok launched, many have wondered where the story could be headed next after such an open ending, with a lot of fans expecting an Egyptian God of War tale. Of course, this may still be part of Santa Monica Studio’s plans for God of War in the future, but as of now, any sequel ideas are being kept under wraps. No sequel in sight is disappointing, but one of the biggest questions now is regarding when the rumored trilogy will be announced, if at all.

If Santa Monica Studio wants to get the most out of such an important celebration, it only makes sense to make a trilogy or sequel announcement at the event fans would be eyeing the most.

God of War’s Future Now Remains a Mystery
With no plans being revealed at God of War‘s 20th anniversary event, the future of Kratos’ story now sits in the shadow of mystery. After the finale of Ragnarok, Kratos and his son Atreus parted ways, leaving many eager to learn about what will become of the father and son duo.
Kratos’ original voice actor, TC Carson, and the character’s current voice actor, Christopher Judge, will both be present at the 20th anniversary panel.
It seems as though 2025 may not be destined to bring players the trilogy remaster they have been hoping for. On the bright side, there is still the possibility of such an announcement happening next year, but missing the 20th anniversary is a letdown. Until Santa Monica Studio shares official word of the franchise’s plans, God of War‘s next move will remain unknown.
