The ongoing playtest from Battlefield Labs for the upcoming untitled Battlefield game has been widely leaked, giving fans of the series an idea of what to expect from the next entry in the storied first-person shooter series. Though Dice has yet to announce any name for the title, the community widely refers to the title as Battlefield 6.
From what they’ve seen of the leaked playtest, fans are genuinely excited about the next entry in the series. Battlefield 2042 never quite recovered from its rough launch in 2021, and despite improvements made by Dice over time, the game never really cemented a reputation as a strong entry in the series. Now, fans are starting to believe that Battlefield 6 could be a return to form for the developer.
Return to Form?
A recent Reddit thread from ConsistentFact9170 showcased the destructibility of Battlefield 6’s environments. In the leaked video, we see a tank shooting at a building, causing it to fall apart. The fallen debris then stays on the ground, piling up. This frenetic energy of war is something that fans of the series have been missing, and the leaked footage causing some excitement as a result.
“Dice, do not tone this down. It looks very good so far,” writes Eroaaa. The playtest has also drawn a lot of comparisons to Battlefield 4, one of the series’ most beloved entries. In particular, fans are saying they miss how Battlefield 4 represented the frantic nature of war, and how it instilled the isolating feeling of being a lone infantryman on a huge battlefield in the player.
“Need that woah, holy s**tballs throwing my hand up to cover my face from debris and dust animation from Battlefield 4 back. Soldiers should also realistically react to the changing environment,” writes iPlayStuffs. “This s**t is so beautiful,” concurs HonestIvory.
There’s a growing feeling that Dice might recapture what made the series so popular in the first place. Considering Battlefield 6 hasn’t even been announced yet, we’ll have to wait and see whether the game captures the hearts and minds of fans of the series. There’s no doubt that Dice will be heartened by the positive feedback to the playtest, even if the studio isn’t pleased by the leak.
