Where to Find the History of the Living Lands Books in Avowed

Where to Find the History of the Living Lands Books in Avowed

Avowed does not waste any time in throwing tough choices and meaningful consequences your way. This becomes evident early on with Dawntreader, one of the first side quests you do in Dawnshore. It comes packed with several significant decisions that go on to influence which ending you unlock in Avowed. While you might expect weighty moral dilemmas later in the story, Dawntreader sets the tone early, shaping how you navigate the Living Lands.

Beyond its narrative impact, Dawntreader also contains two missable achievements. One of them, Historian, requires finding a scattered collection of books hidden within the Eothasian Temple. While some of the volumes are in plain sight, others are easily missed, making this one of the trickier achievements to complete. Each volume is tucked away in different parts of the temple, requiring platforming, underwater exploration, and breaking objects to reveal hidden paths.

Below are the locations of all the History of the Living Lands books in Avowed, complete with annotated images to guide you on your journey to 100-percent completion.

How to Unlock the Historian Achievement in Avowed

Avowed - Eothasian Temple Location

You have to find five volumes of the History of the Living Lands to unlock the Historian achievement. All the books are located inside the Eothasian Temple, north of Paradis, which can only be accessed while completing Dawntreader, one of the best side quests in Dawnshore.

It is also important to point out here, especially for completionists, that Historian is one of the missable achievements in Avowed. You cannot return to the Eothasian Temple to collect any missed books after completing Dawntreader. If the entrance is blocked by vines, you have progressed too far. The only way back into the Eothasian Temple is to either reload an older save file or start a new playthrough.

Do not also forget to take Sargamis’ Last Light of Day before exiting the Eothasian Temple. It is an excellent unique sword to help your fighter dominate the early game.

A History of the Living Lands I: Origin

Avowed - Historian Achievement Book 1

The first book can be found in a hidden room near Caedmon in the Eothasian Temple. After speaking with him during the Dawntreader questline, head up the planks, but turn right instead of left. Going left takes you to Sargamis and his large statue, while the right contains some hanging branches. Crouch to go under them and break the planks to clear the way into a small chamber. You will find the History of the Living Lands I: Origin volume on top of a crate.

A History of the Living Lands II: Lacuna

Avowed - Historian Achievement Book 2

For the second book, climb the ladder to the left of the giant statue and jump across to the wooden path that leads you behind the statue to a large hole in the wall. Head inside and keep following (and climbing) the path until you reach a small room at the top. The History of the Living Lands II: Lacuna volume will be on a small desk to your right.

A History of the Living Lands III: Glossolalia

Avowed - Historian Achievement Book 3

The third book is often the reason players are unable to complete the Historian achievement in Avowed because it is located above eye level, making it easy to miss.

Head further into the Eothasian Temple for the Dawntreader questline until you have to swim underwater to reach a flooded library. Upon entering the room with bookshelves, check the alcoves to your left for the third book. Stand beneath it and jump to add the History of the Living Lands III: Glossolalia volume to your collection in Avowed.

There are enemies to your right as soon as you enter the flooded library. Take care of them first before jumping for the Historian volume.

A History of the Living Lands IV: [Redacted]

Avowed - Historian Achievement Book 4

The fourth book is near the Splinter of Eothas in the final room. Look to the right of the altar to find a hole in the wall. Destroy the pots blocking the way and go through. Inside, clear more pots along the way to find the History of the Living Lands IV: [REDACTED] volume inside a sarcophagus.

A History of the Living Lands V: Synthesis

Avowed - Historian Achievement Book 5

The fifth and final History of the Living Lands book in Avowed is also easily missable. Return to the main chamber with the giant statue. Head to the rickety elevator shack in the back right and interact with the lever to enter Sargamis’ private chambers. If you decide not to kill him, this is where Sargamis comes to sit to ponder on his doings at the end of Dawntreader. The History of the Living Lands V: Synthesis volume is hidden behind the bookshelf to the left. Hug the wall and check the floor behind it to complete the Historian achievement in Avowed.
