Every village in Monster Hunter Wilds has a lot of NPCs to interact with. Some of them will only have a few lines of dialogue to say, while others will be tied to main story missions and additional side activities.
A recurring NPC you’ll interact with if you’re trying to do everything you can in the game is Maki, who is first introduced when she runs away from the village when you arrive at Oilwell Basin. Here’s where to find her during that main quest along with where to find her in town, and how to fix the bug if she’s not appearing.

Where To Find Maki In Monster Hunter Wilds (Toward Fervent Fields)
Upon arriving in Oilwell Basin, you’ll see Maki and another boy from the village runoff, and your first task will be to track her down. Don’t just run off as finding her will result in a fight against one of the common monsters you’ll find throughout the region, a Pompopolo. Bring some antidotes to cure poison, along with a weapon that ideally does Water damage but not poison damage. Once you’re all ready, you can choose to follow the general path the game gives you, or you can run straight to Area 10 of the region, found in the northwestern corner of the middle layer.
Arriving here will trigger the monster fight, and killing it will then trigger the cutscene of you saving Maki and taking her back to town.
Where To Find Maki In Town In Monster Hunter Wilds
Outside of the main quest where you have to find her, there will be a few optional activities that will tell you to find Maki in town. She can wander around a few areas, but to start it’s best to start your search in Azuz, the Everforge which can be fast-traveled to. If you see all the villages gathered around, she can be found around the northern side of the circle.
If she’s not at the Everforge, take the path up the stairs toward the northern section of town where she can be found talking to Yabran who’s sitting on a rock. Yabran can be found next to her at both locations, and he’s an item trader with an icon over his head and marked on the map, making her easy to find.

Maki Not Appearing Bug Fix In Monster Hunter Wilds
There is the occasional issue that leads to Maki not appearing anywhere in town. Should you run into this issue, there are two ways to try and trigger her to spawn back.
- Fast travel to another region and come back.
- Rest in your tent and pass one day in-game.
The first option should always be tried first since it won’t use any Guild Points. That being said, neither of these is a guaranteed fix, but have been seen to fix the problem sometimes. If neither fix works, you’ll simply have to do other activities for a bit and she’ll eventually spawn back, as simply passing time also can fix this issue.
