If you’re looking for a more cozy take on the MMO formula, the upcoming BitCraft Online is for you. Instead of the twisting narrative of FF14, or the two decades of history in WoW, this take on the genre is all about a player-driven world. Whatever you do will end up leaving a mark, and it’s coming to Steam Early Access incredibly soon.

BitCraft Online positions itself as a single-world MMORPG. That means the game is persistent, and that everyone’s decisions, big or small, can have an impact on the landscape around them. The free trade economy grows and shrinks depending on what you do, towns and structures stick around, and you can terraform to your heart’s content. Carve caves into mountains, dig rivers into the ground, or set up trade routes – it’s all up to the game’s community.

While you’ll still have to fend off predators and other wildlife, BitCraft Online is going for a more relaxed vibe. You’re gathering resources, crafting, building, and setting up civilization one day at a time. There’s PvE combat, but the point looks like it’s to cooperate with others to leave your mark on BitCraft Online’s persistent world, rather than work just for yourself. You will level up your own skills over time, though, so don’t worry about that.

Developer Clockwork Laboratories says that, while the full version of BitCraft Online will remain true to the impending early-access build, it will be bigger. The team plans to introduce biome-specific challenges, new regions, enemies, and resources to flesh out the game even more. You can also expect additional weapons, crafting stations, and buildable structures, giving everyone extra choice when it comes to the core of the game. While the EA version will have occasional wipes, the plan is for the full version to have persistent progression forever.

Clockwork Laboratories is launching BitCraft Online in Steam Early Access Thursday May 29. You can wishlist the game on Valve’s platform right here.
