The Hollow Level Walkthrough (Chapter 7)

The Hollow Level Walkthrough (Chapter 7)

Split Fiction is a cooperative puzzle-adventure game that requires players to communicate and solve intricate puzzles together. With minimal hints, the game challenges players to experiment and think creatively.

After Mio finally conquers her inner demons, players see Rader grow more impatient and take things a step further. The seventh level in Split Fiction is smaller than previous chapters, but still has tricky puzzles and strong story moments. Since the game provides no hints, co-op players must coordinate carefully. Here is a complete step-by-step walkthrough for Level 7, The Hollow.

An Ominous Welcome

The Hollow Walkthrough In Split Fiction 1

Soon after gaining control, players must explore the broken-down ruins. Proceed forward until a cutscene is triggered, where Zoe gains her powers, allowing her to aim the spectral fish at a flat surface with R2/RT and pull structures by holding L2/LT. Open the gate using Zoe’s powers to trigger another cutscene introducing Mio’s spectral owl, which can latch onto glowing discs and illuminate them to create a path.

Mio must hold L2/LT while both players cross the gap, or the path will demanifest, causing them to fall.

Up ahead, illuminate another disc to reach a small area with a chandelier that Zoe must pull and release to gain momentum and reach the other side. Here, both characters must use their powers: Zoe pulls the disc down and holds it while Mio illuminates it, then Zoe releases it to raise the platform.

For the moving disc puzzle, pull the disc to the far right and illuminate it before quickly running across. At the door ahead, both players must pull the chains on the sides to open it. Inside, a cutscene reveals more of Zoe’s memories.

Mosaic of Memories

After the cutscene, go up the stairs and head left using Zoe’s powers. Illuminate the disc, then have Zoe pull it to lift the platform. Go through the doorway and jump across the glowing platforms to reach the next area. Follow the linear path, climb the chandelier chain, and ascend.

For the next duo puzzle, Mio must illuminate the disc while Zoe pulls the moving wall, creating a “path of sunshine,” as Mio calls it. Here, you’ll find the final bench, unlocking the Sisters: A Tale of Two Besties Trophy/Achievement. Move forward to find another disc and a wheel at the bottom that raises or lowers the chain. Follow these steps:

  • Place a vortex at the bottom of the wheel to bring the disc down.
  • Illuminate the disc and hold it until you reach the top.
  • Place a vortex at the top of the wheel to rotate it and raise the chain.
  • Place a vortex on either side of the statue head and bring them together.
  • Release the vortex to reach the chain and grab onto it.
  • Illuminate the disc and cross to the other side.

Open the door and grapple to the next area, where the first beam of light puzzle awaits. Illuminate the disc, place a vortex on the ground to pull it closer, then jump onto the beam of light. This leads inside the tower, where more puzzles await. Follow these steps:

  • Illuminate the disc and pull it to the right.
  • Jump onto the light beam and go up to enter the left-side area.
  • Pull the disc to the right and jump onto the beam.
  • Remove the vortex to raise the platform and continue.
  • In the next room, keep the disc illuminated and place a vortex on the right.
  • Walk along the light beam and move near the disc.
  • Place a vortex on the other side to move the disc and climb higher.

After the disc wall-climbing section, illuminate the disc to spawn glowing orbs that act as stepping stones. Upon reaching the door, pull the disc to open it. Descend the staircase, triggering a collapse. You’ll fall onto a chandelier, starting the next sub-level, Ghost Town.

Split Fiction: Should You Use Keyboard Or Controller?

Not sure if a keyboard or controller is better for Split Fiction? Learn the advantages of both and choose the best setup with this guide.

Ghost Town

For the first section of this sub-level, players will ride the chandelier and move it by shifting to either side. Multiple hydra heads will lunge at you, requiring quick movement to avoid them. Upon reaching the large body of water, Zoe must use her Vortex to bring the chandelier closer to the gate while Mio handles the spectral ghosts.

At the gate, one player must grab the chain on the side to climb up and open it, allowing Zoe to pull the chandelier through. Move forward to find several discs above statues that Mio can rotate, revealing flat surfaces for Zoe to use. Upon reaching the metal wheel, both players can dismount via the left side and head to the rooftop. Pull the disc down, illuminate it to rotate the wheel twice, and then release it to create a path for the chandelier. Follow the linear path to the crossbow, interact with it to lower two chandeliers, and then grapple across.

The Hollow Walkthrough In Split Fiction 19

In the next section, avoid roaming ghosts and reach the catapult. Pull it down, release it to propel yourself into the air, and illuminate the disc to form a platform. Continue along the main path until you reach a bell submerged in water. Pull it up to cross to the other side.

Light in the Dark

You will reach a bell that acts as a hammer, which you can pull back using the three flat surfaces. Ignore the middle one and place your Vortex on either side to move the disc toward the chain, then illuminate it to break it. Repeat this for the other chain to lower the bridge. Head through the narrow pathway and follow these steps:

  • Illuminate the first disc and let Zoe wall-climb to the other side.
  • Illuminate the second disc and have Zoe walk across it to reach the chain, lowering the gate for Mio.
  • Move forward and have Mio illuminate the discs so that a worm-like creature emerges, allowing both players to cross.
  • Use Mio’s abilities to continue forward and reach the red gate in the distance.

Snake Door Puzzle

You will encounter a door with a snake-like design, but the middle parts are misaligned. Both players must rotate the circles to align them properly. Place a Vortex on either of the two flat surfaces to start moving the circle. Mio must illuminate the circle to rotate it. When the middle circle has both sides tied without touching the other knot, stop using Mio’s abilities and let Zoe handle the rest. Rotate the circles until the design forms a swirly snake shape. This will open the door, allowing you to go up the stairs and find a petrified creature. Place a Vortex, form the disc, and illuminate it to trigger a cutscene.

Is Split Fiction Single Player Or Multiplayer?

For gamers who want to play Split Fiction single player, follow these tips to find a co-op partner online, which is required to play the game.

Spiritual Guides

After the cutscene finishes, you will take control of the Spiritual Guides, moving together as a centipede. Head toward the temple, where you’ll find a platform with four chains to cut using R2/RT. Drop down, grab the hook at the bottom of the gate, and pull it back to anchor and open it. Move forward to a path with lava falling from above, where you must carefully advance left while avoiding it.

Since both co-op players are connected, staying close is essential; otherwise, you’ll get hit by the lava.

Climb the wall and grab onto the wooden ledges. For the farther ones, swing forward, and the trailing player should let go to propel the centipede, allowing the lead player to grab the next ledge. The next section follows the same mechanic, but now you must also avoid lava dripping from a statue’s bowl.

At the end, both players will land on different sides and must avoid lava geysers. Climb along the wall to reach the moving platforms, which requires coordination. Follow these steps:

  • The player on the right waits while the left player moves onto the platform.
  • As the platform moves right, the second player moves onto the next platform.
  • The first player disembarks and waits for the second player to do the same.

Drop down into the next area, where you must pull the gate’s anchors while avoiding lava-spitting monsters. Wait for them to emerge before biting them; a few hits will take them down. Once cleared, open the gate and pull the plug from the lizard statue. Water will gush out, which one player must bite to channel it through the centipede, creating a safe path over the lava. Repeat this until you reach the lava wheel puzzle.

For this puzzle, grapple onto hooks and propel forward while avoiding flames. Release at the right moment, and be ready to latch onto the next hook. There are many wheels, and failing requires restarting from the beginning. After clearing this section, proceed to the door to trigger a cutscene, marking the start of the final sub-level of this chapter.

The Hydra

For this boss fight, players must move toward each other while climbing obstacles and avoiding the Hydra’s spit. Once close enough, hold R2/RT to tether the spectral animals and fly toward the Hydra’s head to decapitate it. You’ll be separated again and must repeat the process with altered obstacles and platforms. After cutting the second head, Zoe will lose her medallion and must cross the water to reach the crossbow. Interact with it to take down the third head, then move to the illuminated disc and head to another crossbow to eliminate the fourth.

For the final head, avoid falling projectiles and move toward the catapult. Place a vortex below it, get on top, and release it to reach the last crossbow. Shoot the bolt to cut down the final head.

All heads will regenerate, and you’ll fall into the Hydra’s mouth, sliding while avoiding orange bubbles. Pull the chandelier left to move deeper into its body. Near the heart, jump over the shockwaves.

Mio must then carry her light to Zoe, ensuring Zoe stays close, or she’ll die.

Climb one platform at a time while staying near each other to reach the medallion. Use Zoe’s power to assemble the statue, illuminate the bow, and release the arrow to pierce the heart, triggering the final cutscene of this level. After the cutscene, you will start Level 8, Split.
