It’s fairly often that a Pokemon battle comes down to the creature with the highest speed stat. Being able to move swiftly will almost always factor into the ability to win, especially when many battles come down to only a few hits back and forth.

Pokemon TCG: The 16 Most Valuable Cards In Paldean Fates
Paldean Fates brings a ton of Shiny Pokemon to the Pokemon Trading Card Game with collectors going wild over these valuable cards.
If you’re looking to strike quickly and get outta there, consider picking a Pokemon with a high speed stat. There are many ways to increase speed (or lower your opponent’s speed, which can essentially even out), but picking a fast Pokemon from the get-go is a great idea. Here are the Pokemon with the highest base speed stat, some of which might be surprising.
Updated March 9, 2025, by Andrew Scariati: The fastest Pokemon in the series is an ever-growing list, with new contenders for the top spot with each passing generation. Interestingly, most of the additions to this list from the Scarlet & Violet generation feature Speed ties with existing Pokemon.
Oh, and if you’re wondering why the countdown begins at 14, just wait until you see these impressively fierce ties.
14
Ash-Greninja (132 Speed)
Greninja is already a fast Pokemon, clocking in at 122 Speed. It’s easily one of the fastest starters in the game. However, it’s allegedly balanced due to its average offensive stats and poor defensive stats. So, consider a world where Game Freak decides to give Greninja a special form that’s not only incredible offensively, but impressively fast.
That’s the world of Ash-Greninja, a special Greninja with an ability that transforms it into a monster. This beast has monstrous attacking stats and clocks in at 132 Speed. The origins of its nomenclature may rest with the anime’s protagonist, but if this beast had even a single Fire-type attack, we’d all make the bad joke that it’s so titled for the ability to turn most foes to ashes.

Tie: Mega Manetric, Mega Lopunny, G-Form Zen Mode Darmanitan, Koraidon, Miraidon, Chien-Pao, Flutter Mane (135 Speed)
Mega Evolutions, though largely a thing of the past now, have been lauded for their willingness to improve the stats of many non-competitive Pokemon, turning previously unviable options into intriguing choices. Two of those are Mega Manectric and Mega Lopunny, which give some serious oomph to their classic forms. This includes an incredible 135 Speed.
Weirdly enough, tied with the two of them is Galarian Form, Zen Mode Darmanitan. Through its special ability, certain Darmanitan can change forms, and unlike Unovan Zen Mode, Galarian Zen Mode just outright makes it a stronger Pokemon. Never underestimate a snowman.
12
Tie: Barraskewda & Iron Bundle (136 Speed)
Barraskewda, the skewer Pokemon and the evolved form of Arrokuda is a zippy Water-type. It is actually the fastest Water-type currently in the game, clocking in at 136 Speed. To its shame, however, its fellow stats are all a bit dire. Nothing’s downright disastrous, but it’s safe to say that quickness alone is Barraskewda’s claim to fame.
However, potentially, it can go even faster, maybe even clocking in as the fastest in the game. With its normal ability, Swift Swim, its speed is (frequently unnecessarily) doubled in the rain. This turns the 136 Base Speed Pokemon into 276. On a rain team, almost nothing can outspeed it.
11
Zacian and Zamazenta (138 Speed)
Tying for tenth place in speed are the box legendaries for Pokemon Sword & Shield, Zacian and Zamazenta. Specifically, their Hero of Many Battles forms when they are not holding their respective transformation items.
In these regular forms, both Zacian and Zamazenta have a Speed stat of 138. At level 100, that stat can reach over 400. Wolves tend to run quickly as a rule, but these two leave their biological brethren in the dust.
10
Mega Mewtwo Y (140 Speed)
Mewtwo’s two evolutions — Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y — are tied with Mega Rayquaza for the highest base stat total of all attainable Pokemon. (Eternamax Eternatus makes all three look like chumps, but then, Eternamax Eternatus is an unattainable Pokemon.) It’s no surprise that the trio would all have fairly high Speed stats.
Mega Mewtwo Y inches out its attack-focused counterpart, however, with 140 base speed.
9
Dragapult (142 Speed)
The newest Pokemon to be added to the pantheon of pseudo-legendaries is Dragapult, the Ghost/Dragon-type introduced in Gen 8. Pseudo-legendaries by nature have extremely high stats, and Dragapult is no different.
Dragapult’s design sports the unlikely inspiration of modern military aircraft. And modern military aircraft, well, they tend to be fast. With a base Speed of 142, Dragapult is both the fastest pseudo-legendary and the fastest Ghost-type.
8
Zeraora (143 Speed)
Another Pokemon whose alacrity is blatant just by looking at it is Zeraora, a Mythical Pokemon introduced toward the end of Gen 7. Electric-type? Check. Tiger-based design? Check. Lightning bolts in its design? This cat has it all.
Zeraora’s Speed hits an eye-opening 143, reaching upwards of 423 at level 100. Take advantage of this with its suite of equally swift moves, like Plasma Claws, and most of Zeraora’s enemies will never know what hit them.
7
Tie: Mega Beedrill, Mega Sceptile, and Accelgor (145 Speed)
In this entry, there’s a three-way tie. Accelgor, Mega Sceptile, and Mega Beedrill all have a Speed stat of 145. For Sceptile and Beedrill’s Mega Evolutions, this is probably no surprise But, name aside, Accelgor is a bit of a stunner.
Accelgor evolves from Shelmet. Per its Pokedex entries, it removed its heavy helmet mid-evolution, letting this ninja-like predator prowl with alarming deftness.
6
Crowned Zacian (148 Speed)
You might be thinking “I’ve already seen Zacian on this list.” You’d be correct, of course. Zacian’s standard form ties with its counterpart, Zamazenta, for the tenth spot on the list.
However, give Zacian a Rusted Sword to hold, and its Speed stat is even higher. Crowned Sword Zacian, as it is called, has a Speed stat of 148, leaving Zamazenta behind. Poor pupper.
5
Tie: Calyrex Shadow Rider, Deoxys, Mega Aerodactyl, Electrode, Hisuian Electrode, and Mega Alakazam (150 Speed)
Well, that’s just an enormous tie. Mega Alakazam and Mega Aerodactyl take a pair of already-fast Gen 1 Pokemon to near-boundless heights, whilst both Electrode and its Hisuian cousin have been waiting there at 150 base Speed all along. Deoxys, the menace, can say the same in both Attack and Defense forms.
In the Crown Tundra, the signature legendary added to the game is Calyrex, the Harvest King. This intelligent beast, on its own, isn’t particularly impressive. However, that’s because it is missing its steed. There are two options: Glastrier and Spectrier, and both not only alter its type but its stats as well.
Shadow Rider Calyrex also boasts an absurd 165 Special Attack, making it a menace in this form.
4
Pheromosa (151 Speed)
Pheromosa’s Pokedex entries reference its “terrific speed.” It would be a crying shame if they lied. An Ultra Beast, Pheromosa is a slender, bug-like creature that is seen as a counterpart to the bulky and powerful Buzzwole.

As a Bug/Fighting-type, Pheromosa has the highest speed stat of all Fighting types, inching out the six-pack behind it at 151 Speed.
3
Ninjask (160 Speed)
One of the more surprising entries on this list for some might be Ninjask. Amazingly, this cicada is the second-fastest Pokemon in existence. This means it outpaces Legendaries, Ultra Beasts, Mega Evolutions, and basically everything else, despite being a regular Pokemon that can be obtained very early in most games where it makes an appearance.
Ninjask’s speed stat is an amazing 160. That means it can do a few things very well. Alas, only just a few; its remaining stats range from bad to borderline abysmal. Asking a Ninjask to tank a Garchomp is the rough equivalent of counting on Pachirisu to annihilate Eternatus. A random comparison, but a valid one.
2
Deoxys – Speed Form (180 Speed)
Speed Form Deoxys went and put the word itself in its name, so we know it means business. This lightning-quick form of the Mythical Gen 3 Psychic-type has a Speed stat of 180.
It eschews epic Attack or Defense stats for this gift, but if your team is built around the tried-and-true philosophy known as vroom-vroom-vroom, there’s almost no one better for the role.
1
Regieleki (200 Speed)
That’s right, Speed Form Deoxys is no longer the reigning queen. A new champion takes that throne, added back in 2020 with Sword & Shield’s Crown Tundra: Regieleki. This Pokemon is a new member of the fabled Regi family from chilly Sinnoh, and unlike its behemoth brethren, it refuses to take things one step at a time.
Regieleki not only bests Speed Form Deoxys, but it downright trumps it, with an outstanding and utterly unchallenged 200 base Speed. It’s frail, mind you. But when frailty is this fast, Regieleki will tend to get the first word and the last.
