For those that aren’t, you might struggle a little. Because the close quarter battles are the main focus of the game, knowing how to approach these types of fights like how the pros do is very beneficial.

Learning the basics of CQB like stacking up men outside a room, how to clear a room efficiently and safely, threshold decisions and how to deal with junctions in hallways will all help you. Now obviously we’re not saying you can’t play this game unless you’re familiar with military maneuvers, but a cursory glance online at some basic handbooks for this kind of stuff is beneficial.

Diversify Through Doctrine

One of the major beginners tips we can give you for Door Kickers 2 is that you need to diversify your fireteams. You can eventually unlock two full sqauds, and whilst you could just kit them all out with big loud guns, lots of grenades and belt after belt of ammunition, that’s the worst approach possible. Not every tool can solve the same problem, and there’s going to be a lot of different issues thrown your way.

For example, there could be hostages or a timer ticking away. A good approach is to have two squads that are your main operators that assault and cover, whilst the other squads should focus on support with MG’s or high range marksmen with longrifles.

Unlockable doctrines also provide upgrades that further empower these specialized squads, so keep things varied to handle any situation the game throws at you. The last thing you want is a mission that requires stealth, whilst all you have is explosives and short range gear.

Keep Things Moving

There’s a saying in certain milsim circles, if you’re standing still, you’re giving someone else a target. So keep your squad moving through a firefight and don’t let things turn into a mess of cover shooting. A good way to do that is to suppress and flank targets with two squads at once.

In Door Kickers 2 this works as a good tactic as you’ll often have bad guys set up in a spot to slow you down and just murder your men. Suppressing a target from one position, whilst flanking them with another team from a different direction can clear out tricky sections pretty quickly with low to zero casualty risk.

Never Breach From One Point

On the topic of attacking from other directions, the golden rule of Door Kickers 2 is to never breach from just one point. Stacking all your lads to go through one door will result in either a large pile of dead servicemen in the doorway, or spread across the floor inside the room after a failed breach.

Unfortunately, there are going to be rooms where there’s only one entrance, and in those cases you’ll need to use your best judgement. Or find a window that will give you a better view of the room. Visibility works both ways, so find a dynamic entry or assertion point instead of barreling everyone through one door.

Assess, Assess, Assess

Door Kickers 2 is definitely not a switch-your-brain-off kind of game, you need to be alert and focused for the majority of your time playing it and for good reason. All it takes is just one lapse in judgement or a blind-spot, and you’re looking at a total team wipe. So assess, assess, assess.

Pay attention to everything. At the beginning of a mission you’re given a top-down view of the entire area, so run through it first. Check what corners are going to cause problems, where threats could possibly be hiding, what your insertion points are, and what approach you should take to each individual door and room.

For example, is it a small room you can rush into whilst blowing the door? Or is it a large area that could result in a massacre if you just smash your way in? The game likes to hide shooters in the most unexpected spots, so run through that zone with a fine tooth comb before you start any actions.

Watch Your Environmental Hazards

You can have the best squad, fully maxed gear and upgrades, and still get wiped out by a stray shot to a gas can that was beside one of your men. Door Kickers 2’s main hazard, aside from the bad guys with guns, are environmental hazards.

The biggest and best examples of this that you’ll run into are piles of gas cans and cars. Gas cans take only one or two stray rounds to go off, whilst cars can take a bit more punishment. Being aware of these hazards is vital, because not only will it help you avoid stacking your men near them, but you can also use them to your advantage. For example, if say a guy with an RPG is hiding behind a van, just shoot the van.

It becomes easier over time to spot environmental hazards. Take advantage of the planning stage and the pause mechanic to double check areas before you start, and as you progress.

Slow Is Safe, Fast Is Reckless

One thing you’ll often hear from guys online that clear rooms for a living is the phrase “Slow is safe”. This is pretty self-explanatory and is applicable here in this military simulator style game since it focuses so much on realistic reactions to combat in close quarters.

Going slow may seem counter-productive, especially if you’ve played a lot of FPS games, but going as fast as you can to lower that game time is only working against you. Take your time, pause and plan, and make sure everyone is prepped before entering a room.

For example, take a moment to have the second man in a stack prep a grenade or flashbang before breaching to support the first man in the door. Make sure your stacks are set and a rear guard holding security is in position before everyone moves. Also ensure eyes are always on windows, and so on. Going slow is always safer for your soldiers.

Never Operate Alone

One of the best features of Door Kickers 2 is that you can get really specific with your Fireteams actions. For example, you could just shove an entire team into a room and hope for the best. Or you could manually take control to help them. Or, and this is the best part, manually plan out the route and interactions of each individual soldier.

This allows you to split up squads and have them perform some really advanced and highly accurate attacks as a smaller unit. However, whilst you can split up your squad, it’s not recommended.

Soldiers on their own are far more vulnerable, and you could end up charging one person into a room full of bad guys. At minimum, have a pair with one soldier providing cover for the other at all times, especially if one of them is the designated ‘Door Kicker’. Anything less than that is inefficient and begging for a game over screen.

Consider Different Door Techniques

Our last tip worth taking home with you is that it’s worth learning different door techniques. Whilst that may sound odd considering it’s just a door, but in close quarter battles it’s a monolithic challenge. Learning different approaches can increase your survivability exponentially.

For example, you could bust the door with a hammer, blow the whole thing apart with a breaching charge or grenade, stealthily open it, or use a camera to spy under one. Also, you could even open a door on one side as a distraction, but fully breach from another point. You could even sync up the door open with a grenade toss for maximum efficiency.

There’s a lot you can do with doors other than just charging in, so try experimenting.
