Summary
- Marvel Rivals fans noticed mispellings in Groot and Cloak & Dagger skins
- Second misspelling in Cloak & Dagger skin prompts speculation about NetEase
- Fans petition for Groot’s misspelling to be added back, but still like new Cloak & Dagger skin
Last month, Marvel Rivals fans noticed a pretty obvious error in Groot‘s Carved Traveler skin. On the skin, his own name had been misspelt, reading “Goot” instead. Considering saying his name repeatedly is kind of his whole deal, it was a pretty comical error, although one that has since been patched out.
Now, NetEase has done it again. The new Twilight Duo skin for Cloak & Dagger also has a mispelling of their own name, with Dagger’s skin having a bracelet that spells out “Dager”.
Cloak & Dagger Forget How To Spell Their Own Alter Egos In This New Skin
Happens to the best of us
Since this is the second time this has happened in a few weeks, fans are a little baffled. Some wonder if this is a sign that localisers were caught up in recent NetEase layoffs, meaning that translation errors might not be spotted. Some even wonder if textures and assets for character models are being AI generated, although that is pure speculation that is only based on the mispellings.
As amusing as this all is, it’s not enough to top the Goot incident. There are some fans that miss Goot so much that they’ve signed a petition for the error to be added back in.
Spelling issues aside, players appear to like the new Cloak & Dagger skin, which is their first Epic tier skin since Growth & Decay in Season 0. We’re still waiting on the duo to get a Legendary, but in the meantime, this is a pretty neat skin – mispelling of their own name aside. It’s better than more nerfs, anyway.
