With the Elbaf Arc of One Piece starting to pick up, it seems likely now that big events may be coming to the manga. Between the God’s Knights making their first moves against the giants of Elbaf, or Loki finally being released from his bindings, big things are coming in the near future of One Piece. After a fairly compact build-up, at least compared to other arcs, it seems like some of the initial plot lines of Elbaf may be ending faster than many audience members initially expected.
Due to how fast problems arose in the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, mainly between the God’s Knights and Loki, many fans believe that the arc may be setting up one of the most tragic character deaths in the series so far. Namely, some fans believe that Saul may actually die in the upcoming conflict that’s quickly brewing in Elbaf. Although fans aren’t sure of how he may ultimately meet his demise, based on his past track record of noble sacrifice, it’s likely that if someone is going to die during One Piece’s Elbaf Arc, it’s going to be Saul.

Who Is Saul In One Piece?
The Former Vice Admiral Almost Died Saving Robin
Jaguar D. Saul, in the distant past of One Piece, was a giant who worked as a Vice Admiral in the Marines. However, through fate, he met Nico Robin as a child and quickly became the future Straw Hat’s one and only friend. Due to their bond, when the Buster Call came to Ohara Island, Saul helped Robin escape, sacrificing himself in order to hold off the future Admiral, Kuzan.
I missed you so much Saul! – Robin
Luckily, rather than perishing in the Buster Call on Ohara, Saul managed to survive, allowing him to save the important books from the Library of Ohara, and return to his homeland of Elbaf. Much later down the line, it was revealed to Robin that her old friend had survived, setting up a reunion between the two when One Piece’s Straw Hats made it to Elbaf. Recently, once the crew arrived there, Robin and Saul were finally able to reconcile, making for one of the sweetest moments in the series so far.
Saul’s Selfless Nature May Lead To Him Rushing Into Battle To Save Someone
With Massive Battles Happening On Elbaf This May Be Fatal
- Saul May Sacrifice Himself To Save Elbaf Or The Straw Hats
- He Has Also Finished Most Of His Major Character Arcs
However, after barely surviving his initial sacrifice, some fans believe that Saul’s heroism may also lead to his demise. Being a member of the D Clan in One Piece, Saul seems to act on instinct more than anything else, especially when someone is in danger. Between sacrificing himself for Robin, or quickly rushing in to save the giant children of Elbaf, Saul seems to put the safety of others above his own in most situations.

At the same time, Saul has completed most of his major character arcs throughout the story of One Piece. Between saving the books from the Library of Ohara, and finally reuniting with Robin after so many years, the amount of resolutions for Saul’s character that have come during the Elbaf Arc may be a death flag for his character. Plus, with Saul being spared after his first brush with death, it would create an interesting parallel if he were to die after trying to save someone else.
There Are A Few Elements Of Saul’s Character That Could Be Explored
His Status In The D Clan Is Still Shrouded In Mystery
Still, there are some important elements that should be resolved before his character dies, mainly regarding his status in the D Clan. Although little is known about the D Clan, similar to the One Piece Emperor Blackbeard, Saul has always seemed like a strange member of the group that mainly consists of a few powerful One Piece families. However, once these questions are answered, and they very well might be in the near future of Elbaf, Saul may be the next important character to die in One Piece.
There is nothing more ridiculous than being born in this world to be alone. Someday you will meet brave friends who will protect you. Go and live with them Robin. – Saul
In the end, based on Saul’s heroic nature and self-sacrificing personality, it seems that if any character is going to face death during One Piece’s Elbaf Arc, it will likely be him. Plus, with Saul’s plot lines and character arcs quickly running out, Oda may be gearing up to give the giant one of the most heart-wrenching death scenes in the series so far. Still, for now, fans will have to wait and see what Oda decides to do with Saul’s character for the remainder of the Elbaf Arc in One Piece.
