Up until Dragon Ball Daima, every single anime television series set in the Dragon Ball universe was divided into seasons, or sagas, scattered across at least 50 episodes. However, Daima swooped in and changed everything, marking the very first time that a Dragon Ball anime has an extremely short runtime of just 20 episodes, raising questions about whether Toei Animation will choose to continue it in some shape or form.

Ever wonder what allowed the Super Saiyan 4 transformation? Here’s how it happened.
Even the television original Dragon Ball GT came with four sagas and a total of 64 episodes, but it seems like Daima will be breaking the tradition that the franchise has been following for decades.
Will Dragon Ball Daima Get A Season 2?
Set a few months after the defeat of Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Z, Daima brings the Z Fighters back as they face a new threat from the Demon Realm called Gomah, who uses the Dragon Balls to turn Goku and the gang into children.
Daima does not follow an already written manga, much like GT, and is a television original series, but unlike GT, Daima’s story was written by the franchise’s original creator, Akira Toriyama, who passed away on March 1, 2024.
Since Dragon Ball Daima was always meant to be a miniseries, the chances of it getting a second season are highly unlikely, as there have not been any announcements regarding the series continuing from Toei Animation.
Additionally, Season 2, without the story contributions from Toriyama, would make Daima no different from Dragon Ball GT, a series that was often criticized for not being canon and wasting many important elements from the franchise’s universe.
Fortunately, the story told in Dragon Ball Daima feels like a compact tale that concluded as well as it possibly could have on February 28, 2025, not leaving many loose ends in the process.
Sure, there are various possibilities that Toei Animation can still explore, such as perhaps a new situation in the Demon Realm that requires further assistance from the Z Fighters.
But for now, Daima remains a tight 20-episode saga that has not overstayed its welcome and does not plan on making a return anytime soon for more seasons, unless Toei Animation changes its mind in the future.
