Summary

  • Frieren, The Dangers in My Heart, and Dandadan are considered the top anime of 2025 by Anime Trending.

Award season is in full swing, and that also means it’s time for the anime awards. Anime Trending is an anime award in its 11th year, with categories including Anime of the Year, Anime Movie of the Year, and awards for characters, music, and aspects of the shows. Awards are given out based on voting that happens online, and then an awards show is broadcast via YouTube via Anime Trending’s official channel.

The 2025 Anime Trending Awards (which are for anime from 2024) took place on Saturday, March 8th, with a two-and-a-half-hour award show that can be viewed retrospectively via YouTube if you missed it when it was airing. While many anime fans are interested in lots of the award categories, arguably the most significant category is for Anime of the Year. Predictions were that it would go to either The Dangers in My Heart, Dandadan, or Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (herein, Frieren). In the end, it was Frieren that took home the win, though many anime titles showed up across the other categories of award.

Frieren Takes Home Anime of the Year

Plus Five More Awards

In total, there were ten anime nominated for Anime of the Year at the Anime Trending Awards 2025. Tens of thousands of votes were cast online between the series, and the final winner was a very close call, with less than 200 votes between second and first place. Frieren did take home the title in the end, though, with a total of 10,280 votes, beating The Dangers of My Heart, which had 10,098 votes.

Anime Trending reported on their official website,

In its first week on the Fall 2023 charts, Frieren placed second in Week 1 behind the second season of SPY x FAMILY. It then remained in the top spot between Weeks 2-6, before dropping to second once again in Week 7. The series dropped down to third in Weeks 8-10 and placed second in the last week of the charts.

Despite never fully dominating the top spot in the charts, the anime consistently stayed in the top three positions in a contested season that also featured The Apothecary Diaries and SPY x FAMILY Season 2. Frieren eventually won the Fall 2023 Anime of the Season, securing its nomination for Anime of the Year at this year’s Anime Trending Awards.

In addition to winning Anime of the Year, Frieren also cleaned out five other categories. The popular fantasy anime won Best in Adapted Screenplay, Best in Sceneries and Visuals, Action or Adventure Anime of the Year, and Fantasy Anime of the Year. Its leading male character, Himmel, also won Supporting Boy of the Year in the character categories. While the top position of Anime of the Year may have been a close call for Frieren, the anime overall did extremely well at the awards show.
