At a March 9 panel at South By Southwest (SXSW), Sony and Kojima Productions confirmed the release date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach creator Hideo Kojima also showed off the Collector’s Edition and said that preorders for the game will begin on Monday, March 17.
Taking place sometime after the first Death Stranding title, the sequel will see characters like Sam Porter Bridges make their return, along with new cast members. In late February, the PlayStation Store page for Death Stranding 2 was updated and included the game’s premise and primary mechanics. The store update confirmed that the Social Strand system would come back and that open-ended encounters would give players more agency over how to resolve a situation with various enemies. Death Stranding 2 will also explore questions about human connectivity in a post-apocalyptic open world.

Fans looking to get their hands on one of 2025’s most-anticipated games will not have to wait too much longer to jump in. At an SXSW panel in Austin, Texas, that was streamed on YouTube and Twitch, Sony and Kojima revealed that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will launch on PS5 on June 26. Players can pre-order Death Stranding 2 starting Monday, March 17, at 10:00 AM Eastern. For the panel, Kojima was joined by Sony’s Kristen Zitani, guest composer Woodkid, and voice actors Norman Reedus and Troy Baker. Reedus and Baker will reprise their roles as Sam and Higgs in the upcoming game. To start the panel, Kojima shared a 10-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2, which shared some gameplay and cinematic shots captured on PS5 hardware.

After sharing some frantic action scenes and personal interactions between the game’s central cast, the Death Stranding 2 trailer then revealed the game’s June release date and preorder window. The physical and digital versions will start at $69.99. Death Stranding 2 will also have a Collector’s Edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition will have a $10 markup from the base version and include some in-game items, such as a machine gun that uses MP bullets and patches. Death Stranding 2‘s physical Collector’s Edition will include a voucher for the Digital Deluxe Edition, along with a 15-inch Magellan Man statue, a 3-inch Dollman figurine, a collector’s box, art cards, and a letter from Kojima.
All preorders will include 48 hours of early access to Death Stranding 2. Given that Death Stranding 2 may be a psychological journey, it remains to be seen how long the Collector’s Edition preorders will last.
